Datapoints:
There is a $90 AF and one cannot earn the 90K in one year unless one does $25K spending.
Best way to add to initial purchase bonus of 20K is to add AUs (and quite a few of them, too!).

3rd approval

Just got approved for my 3rd VS card in less than year. Prior two cards are still open. Will have to confirm the 90k bonus with CSR when card arrives. Have accumulated a little over 300k miles from 4 apps in under 3 years. They keep sending me targeted emails for 50k or 90k sign up offers. I will update the wiki with the latest live link.

UPDATE (9/15/2015): I did confirm the 90k bonus today.

As long as you keep accumulating or redeeming, all of your miles are extended for 36 months from the last transaction date.

As a follow up to my post above, I waited for the 7500 anniversary points to post, then I just canceled today, before the annual fee hit. This time the disclosure they read to me said nothing about losing my FlyingClub points by canceling.

How do people use Virgin Atlantic miles? I'm on their award charts page and taxes are $500 for economy and $810 for economy plus!

Where are you flying from? The best value is a 1 way ticket Upper Class to LHR. Flying into London, the taxes are cheaper. 40k miles for an UC ticket is a steal.

I fly out of NYC and yikes, 40k + $419.60 taxes to London and 40k + $713.30 back! Do people usually fly upper class there and a different airline (with lower taxes like BA booking through AA) or economy class back?

Does Virgin charge fuel surcharges on redemptions on South African Airways?

One way economy LAX-LHR 21.5K miles and $134. Not so good the other way around, nearly $250 in fees. Decent deal in IMHO and very good availability. On par with AA or United when booked close-in (21 days or less).

I was tempted by this offer - I have no use for Virgin Atlantic, but figured I could get good value out of the 90k miles on a partner. Then I read the thread about trying to use Virgin Atlantic miles on partner awards, and it sounds like a miserable experience at best, and all but impossible to actually book partner awards (clueless, rude, unhelpful agents, things can't be booked online, surly agents don't know Jack and don't want to learn, don't answer the phones etc.). I am inclined to pass on this one now.

Sometimes I do. I'm flying to London next week on Virgin Atlantic w/ an UC ticket. I will be flying BA home.

If you haven't flown Virgin UC, I'd recommend doing so. It's a very nice product. The taxes seem high but you're basically flying Upper Class for the price of an economy ticket which isn't a bad deal at all.

Read through this thread and surprisingly no one commented on tier points accumulation with multiple cards.

The site shows: With the Virgin Atlantic Black Card you will earn 1 tier point for every $2,500 you spend, with a maximum of 2 tier points per month.

Has anyone had success with 3 cards for 72 points or 2 for 48?

Renew your Gold membership with 80 tier points in your account and receive a 1 cabin upgrade for 2

Thanks for your input

I updated the wiki to show that the 90k points will not be awarded unless one spends $25,000 the first year. Once can earn 75k after hitting the minimum spend of $12,000, followed by another 7,500 at account anniversary for $15,000 spend or 15,000 points at account anniversary for $25,000 spend. If you use this to fund a CitiGold account that would help you hit the $12,000 spend easily for a total of 75,000 points.

I did 2 spends and now have 186k miles, had planned on doing r/t UC ORD to LHR but as many of you have pointed out 2 seats would run 160k miles plus around $1000 in fees; to make it worse we live in Omaha so I will have to pay for OMA-ORD. We both have around 200k AA miles so OMA to any AA European gateway city would run 200k and around $100 in fees for 2 in J. I am thinking of just converting the miles to 280k Honors points which would get us around 6 free nights worth maybe $1800? I'm I missing a plan C that would make more sense? I do see I could do a r/t ORD to South Africa in UC for 90k one way and around $1500 in fees but not sure in that is in the 3 year plan.
