Jackal did another excellent job planning and coordinating everything, BobW's generous hosting and sharing his Wine of Wall made a great evening, and Beckoa's "Dinner: Impossible" was over the top as usual.

I saw that Dutch Harbor had a food truck. I should have totally stopped to take a photo and get some food

Wow I did not see that.

No food truck spotting on the Denali Highway this morning- thankfully it didn't snow on my tent last night either. ^

Morning friends,
I also want to express my thanks to our Do organisers for all their efforts . I enjoyed my first Alaska Do immensely. Dutch Harbour was a delight for me, a part of the world I may not have got to on my own. Enjoyed the nature, the military history, the human history, catching up with a friend of a friend, seeing whales, and.......the fish, 24/7 the slapping sounds of spawning season outside my window.

The before and after activities in ANC were great. Hatcher Pass and independence Gold Mine was a great chance to get out of the city. Special thanks to jackal for co ordinating all transport, as I did not have a rental car.

A first that day was seeing a deceased brown? bear being towed off a highway bridge to clear a traffic jam.
Another first, a mini tour of a Costco store thanks to our dear host beckoa where I found out I could not buy 2 beers, it had to be 96!!
Finally, my first Wall o Wine hosted by Bob W ,a great evening, thanks so much for the 03:30 departure!!
Another first, first time to a State Fair in the USA. All good fun, there was a lot to see last Saturday.

So, lots of firsts on my first Alaska Do.
And most delightful, having met so many old friends from previous Do's - my first was in 2002. Maybe I will see some of you again at an OZfest down under in the future.

I would have loved going to the BBQ but things were winding down when I arrived just after 10 and flights were zeroed out so could not attempt SDC to the morning flight. But it worked out good. got to spend the day brewery hopping with another FTer in PDX.

Ill try to upload some of the pics ive been through so far. A few have already been seen on my Facebook page. I really have to catch up on studying and my #1 goal is to get the photos out from my cruise as payment for the favor. I do not want to continue my trend of not finishing trip reports but i guess i can at least just focus on photos.

I have set up an album if you want to keep track of the work in progress. It only has 1 photo so far and that is the over turned trailer i posted upthread.

While I am pretty sure that the official Alaska DO is on hiatus this year, I plan to continue the BBQ and assault on the "Wall O’ Wine™" around July 4.
