You can choose to receive the bonus 2X either in points or in miles.
Bonus 2X rounded down to nearest $3,000 if miles, no rounding down for points.
Platinum Visa and Diamond Unionpay both OK.
If Diamond Unionpay:
Basic 1X: $8/mile
2X for $300 or over in HK: $4/mile
Extra 2X for promotion (edit 4 Sep: to be awarded in Jan 2012): $6/mile
Total promotional rate: 1/(1/8x2 + 1/12x2) = $2.4/mile)
Edit 4 Sep: Oh pooh. Just noticed an onerous T&C:

Oh boo....this means it'll be too late for the $8/mile redemption.
The effective earn rate will be 1/(1/8x2 + 1/12x2) = $2.4/mile.

The additional 2X showed up in my account today in full, but I haven't checked my Bankcomm account for 10 days so it could have arrived any day in the last 10 days.
Spent $26,460 which earned me 52,920 additional pts which is good for 4,410 miles...had I gone for $3,000/500 miles I would have only gotten 4,000 miles.

Self explanatory. But some offer maximisation details:
- if u have more than one BEA principle care (I've three) u can enjoy the offer multiple times
- unlike Dah Sing lucky draws (but like the Goodies Reward) u can use as many cards as u like/need to pay one tax bill

Edit 28/1: $20 posted today as well to all three accounts.

Hello to you all,
I'm a noob and both impressed by your understanding and a bit bewildered by the options available after reading back through the thread.
I'm wondering if you might like to offer a bit of free advice?
I'd be grateful if you had any suggestions.
Cheers

- I'm looking for a card that earns the best conversion possible to Asia Miles, as I don't have any real interest in free offers/shopping deals/cash back.
- The spend runs at about 30K a month.
- About two-thirds of the spend is in HK.
- I have access to commercial (SME) and retail banking - if that makes any difference.
- If the card could be used to settle staff salaries, PayPal, personal investments and still earn points, that would increase the monthly spend substantially.
I'd be grateful if you had any suggestions.
Cheers

Dear Percysmith,
This is a definitely an awesome earn strategy....
I just applied for the HSBC Plat Visa card. Can you confirm which spending category I need to choose, please?
thanks again.
