Arson in Lake County

This fire has been burning for a couple of days. Estimates are that between 150 and 200 homes were destroyed. And it turns out some jerk did it deliberately. What prompts somebody to do that? And what should be done to the arsonist? Keep it clean to it doesn't end up in badOMNI.

Depending if the arsonist was a child or adult then they should never see anything more than prison walls for the rest of their life. I can't think of anything else for something that causes that much damage.

MIDDLETOWN, Lake County — County officials arrested a Clearlake man Monday on 17 counts of arson related to numerous fires — including the raging 4,000-acre Clayton Fire that has so far claimed 175 buildings and displaced hundreds of people.
County Sheriff Brian Martin and California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Chief Ken Pimlott announced the arrest of Damin Pashilk, 40, at a community meeting of about 200 people at a casino doubling as a Red Cross shelter south of the blaze.

I've been worried terrorists might get the idea to start multiple fires during weather like this to cause all sorts of havoc. Can you imagine what 50 fires started around LA or in the Oakland Hills would do during Santa Ana conditions?

With regards to this guy, I think the motivation likely has to do with the thrill of seeing something he created ending up in the news. He had a special secret, and every news story gave him another frisson. Of course it also requires complete and utter disregard for the possible consequences, including possible deaths. He certainly needs to be locked away for quite a while to protect society.

there have been arson wildfires in greece

many years ago, i recall a mainstream media article possibly in LA Times, of police shooting a man during/near a wildfire, and recovering some kind of flammable/incendiary item from his body, interesting the story seemed to be buried..

I think you're right. That just doesn't seem to match the devastation the guy caused. But you can't give him anything worse. Some crimes there simply isn't a punishment that fits.

The guy arrested is 40.

Re Doc Savage comment about fires in the Oakland Hills. I remember the fire in the 90s that burned the side of the mountain in the Oakland Hills. 25 dead and 3,000 homes destroyed. That kind of devastation could be used as terrorism and all it requires is a match.

I lived in LA then. The story wasn't buried.

Cheers.
