Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...
For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times
Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.
If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.
Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here
Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.
Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)
Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~£235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

As mentioned previously. I received both tier points from two flights with the same code. However these were completely separate flights and not a stopping point on a single flight. We were Dublin - PHL - Orlando.

Many thanks for all your advice. I believe GentleGiant's experience reflects my situation, but maybe he was just lucky in having both flights credited. I will still be able to renew Gold without the extra points, but it'll be a stretch for Mrs A. Let's hope for one of the frequent AA schedule changes that lets me re-route on the transcon via JFK - this was a lot more $$ when I tried to book it.

There seem to be a few different versions. The ones on EF states 7 days. However itamatrix brings up rules which show Saturday night only as posted and don't seem to need 7 days.

I don't know how to use the Matrix either, I actually asked here but no response. I probably go through the past post/suggested webpages.
I just played with Google Flights. Since I wanted to add LHR-HEL, I tried a number of combinations. From my experiences, pricing varies everyday, you should keep an eye on prices.

I got to grips with it (certainly no expert & still ask specifics on FT at times) by simply googling terms such as ' ita matrix instructions' and the like.
You'll find several good explanations of how to use it.
IIRC Headforpoints has one but look at several to get a good grounding.
If you start with those and then ask specific questions if you have complex itins etc... On a relevant thread on FT.
Hope that helps.
What you won't find is information on how to automate multiple searches (which I have no knowledge of either).

The anecdotal evidence over a long time suggests that it isn't really possible to say that definitively. Personally, I try to avoid these combinations and wouldn't recommend them if a suitable alternative is avaiable but I've read plenty of reports of TP's being given for each segment.

I can't claim to have any data on the issue but my impression gained over time is that double credit is much less likely to be given under a wholly domestic single flight number than it is on an international/domestic combination. That said, the odds are usually against the traveller in each instance.

Wrestling with a HNL & PHX ex DUB (or any EU)
I am having the same problem trying to get out to PHX for 4-5 days and then HNL for 4-5 days. 4 Adults all wanting silver cards & on way to Gold...
See below and you will see that the moment you choose a 2000GBP / head option it adds another 300GBP when you click the last sector.
Also I want to get 3x140 on the way back, but scared of getting an angled seat from JFK - but unable to select the PHL routing back...
HMMM...

Flyerkit.
Isn't that because your doing a stopover in PHX so you get the additional charge. More than 24 hours and you have to pay the additional charge.
