The thing is that it'll be more than just a few COI planes that won't be re-fitted. My understanding is that the later deliveries of the 777-300ER that have no P but NEV4 in J will remain that way and be used on routes where AF feels that they're "good enough" (Miami, Rio de Janeiro are just two of the ones I can think of and I am sure there are more like that).

Precisely for the above reason. There will be some non-COI planes with NEV4 around in the future that will never see BEST

Your understanding is unfortunately correct. A complete non-sense. I remain optimistic thinking that those birds will be finally retrofitted, but after all the rest (A388, A332), so...in 10 years

Sad indeed.
According to AF press release 25 77W (42J or 14J) will never be retrofitted. They might have made a mistake and that is only 24 77Ws, but they include 12 77W COI with 14J and 12 77W with 42J (including the new deliveries). By 2017 when the 777 retrofit is completed, the risk of equipment swap from a BEST 77W to a NEV 77W will not be negligible.

Seems like there's no choice but to accept Pain In the Rear End seats.

AF has been using BEST equipment on additional flights between CDG and YVR over the past several weeks (more flights than the original seating charts indicated) It seems to be kind of pot-luck, however, as they've now moved to 4 flights per week, will increase to 5 a week next month, and about half and half with BEST equipment now.

Also see on FlightRadar24 that F-GSPM has "disappeared" from their data base, which I've now determined is code for having moved that plane to Bordeaux for the incredibly slow-moving Zodiac Co. to install a new interior. So one more 777-200 will have BEST seats in.....say......a few weeks? A company in Bellingham, WA specializes in retrofitting aircraft with new interiors. They go to the home base of the airline and are incredibly fast, compared with Zodiac's glacial pace, in getting the job done.
I still cling to faint hope that a late September flight YVR-CDG then to BOD will be changed to BEST. Have offer from AF to switch to the KLM flight out of YVR via AMS for $274 additional fare. But looking at their seat plan, other than truly "lie flat" seats, the configuration is STILL 2-3-2. What's with that? It isn't the seat on the NEV-4 I hate, it is the configuration with some seats not having aisle access I object to. Who designs these interiors?

Not all retrofits are the same.
This is a major one. Needs change all the wirings and fittings, new video system, etc...

For KLM you can do your own research on FT. YVR is supposed to get a 772 and all 772s have been retrofitted. But the seating is 2-2-2 not 2-3-2. If 2-3-2 it must be a non-retrofitted 77W.

According to flightradar24 for AF374/379:

May 1: F-GSPB - BEST
May 2: F-GSPB - BEST
May 4: F-GSPG - BEST
May 6: F-GSPP - NEV4
May 7: F-GSPB - BEST
May 8: F-GSPD - NEV4
May 9: F-GSPB - BEST

So for May thus far, 5 out of the 7 YVR runs have had the BEST cabins, even though another link stated it to be available on Wednesdays only. F-GSPB has paid a frequent visit to the Canadian West Coast in a little over a week.

Keep your fingers crossed.

Indeed, the KLM configuration is 2 - 2 - 2. Here's the thing.....as a single flyer I love a 1-2-1 configuration because the single seat on the window is ideal and private. Have flown Delta (767 and coming home in November after my 2 months coming up in Paris, will be on a Delta A-330) I really love their business class section for that reason.

Yes, I see that AF is allocating the F-GSPB plane many days recently, almost all those days originally configured on NEV-4 equipment with 2-3-2.

Total dilemma about taking the "offer" of flying to Bordeaux in September on KLM via AMS, simply because the reviews for their new business class product pale in comparison with the new AF product. I don't think the powers-that-be will take kindly me if I switch then go whining back to them that I'd like to RE-switch if they put a retrofitted plane on the route. All in all, my whimpering is a bit embarrassing as I am incredibly fortunate to be flying J class at all. So now I will shut up and hope for AF to come through for me in September. If not: C'est la vie.

I have a ticket on AF 6 next February in Business. I realize that anything can happen between now and then, but...the 380 has been switched to a 4 class 777-300 with BEST. Is AF pulling the 380 off the JFK route?

No but I know there will be temporary switch to B777 at that time, likely for maintenance and who knows...maybe the beginning of the retrofit of A388 fleet to BEST cabin ?
But the switch to 777 for you is a good news you will have the BEST seat ^

I am very happy about the switch, though I do know that it's a long time away and the plane might change again. Definitely looking forward to AF having BEST on all their TATL flights; at that point I'd move my TATL travel back to AF from DL.

For the Economy cabin on a 777-200, is 24J a smart choice? Delta gave a nice price on the seat, which was mark "Preferred" on its website. If I am reading the seat map correctly, it's a seat with no seat in front and thus unlimited legroom.

Without knowing which config you are referring to, it's hard to give you an answer.

The new BEST destinations for the summer season (compared to winter 2015/2016) are : BSB, CCO, IAH, LAD, YUL, SFO, YVR, WUH (note that YVR and WUH were briefly BEST in summer 2015, but they were back to NEV4 after)

The following stations were BEST during the winter 2015/2016 and will go back to NEV for the summer : ATL, BLR and MEX (Personal note : surprising to see MEX here listed as it was served by a 747 and then now the A380 so NEV3 or 4, so I don’t think MEX has ever been BEST, except maybe for the few days of B777 service between the end of 747 and the beginning of the A380 service).

And now the complete BEST list :
# indicates the flights having P (with some exceptions mentioned below)
When no date is mentioned, it means that the BEST seats are already deployed as of today

- BOS (AF338/333) : starts on May 3 with mix BEST/NEV4
- IAH# (AF636/639)
- LAX# (AF072/069) : with mix BEST/NEV4
- JFK (AF012/017) : from March 28 to May 7
- JFK# (AF010/011) : from march 28 to June 4, depending on the day it can be a flight with or without P.
- JFK# (AF008/009) : exceptions during weeks of july 25 and Oct 24 during which it can be a flight with or without P, depending on the day
- SFO (AF080/085) : from July 30
- IAD# (AF054/055) : from march 28 to June 5 and then from Sept 19 onward
- IAD (AF026/027)
- YUL (AF344/347) : starts on July 1st with mix BEST/NEV4
- YYZ (AF356/351) : from March 29 to May 15, with mix BEST/NEV4

- BSB (AF520/521) : starts on July 5 with mix BEST/NEV4

- GRU# (AF454/457) : depending on the day, it can be a flight with or without P.
- PTY (AF474/475) : with mix BEST/NEV4
- PEK# (AF382/381) : from March 28 to April 29 depending on the day it can be a flight with or without P. Moves to 4 cabins (with P) all days from May 2
- HKG# (AF188/185) : only on days when the flight is B777-operated (A380 has no BEST cabins at the moment)
- CAN (AF102/107) : from June 16 to Sept 4 with mix BEST/NEV4
- PVG# (AF112/117) : depending on the day, it can be a flight with or without P
- PVG# (AF116/111) : only on days when the flight is B777-operated (A380 has no BEST cabins at the moment)

- CCO (AF804/805) : from June 12 to Sept 3 with mix BEST/NEV4
- DLA/SSG (AF958/953) : from March 28 to July 3, and from Sept 13 onward
- JNB# (AF990/995) : only on days when the flight is B777-operated (A380 has no BEST cabins at the moment)
- LBV# (AF976/977)

- YAO# (AF900/901)
- BGF/YAO (AF775/775)
- BEY# (AF566/565)
- BEY (AF562/561) : from June 6 to Sept 11 with mix BEST/NEV4
- DXB# (AF662/643) : depending on the day, it can be a flight with or without P
What does BEST mean?

New updated seats? Are they lie-flat?

Does it mean once a location becomes BEST, it remains BEST permanently or just for a period of time?

So after July 30, SFO-CDG flights will have the BEST premium cabin in the AF fleet?
