AC hiring more...

Just found out on AC's website that they are hoping to add about 500 extra staff at Winnepeg, Toronto and Saint John airport. Looks like they are really hoping to improve their service...

I was just wondering what are the difference between the benefits that Flight attendants get and Airport agents get, is it basically the same?

Benefits packages are pretty much the same for all unionized employees. There are differences in the pension plans, however, travel benefits, medical/dental etc. are pretty standard.

AC*SE you summed it up well. Health benefits, life insurance coverage and pass policies are consistent for each employee. Pensions are negotiaged union packages but do not vary by much.

Sick benefits is the area where you will find different policies and formulas due to the wide scope of working hours per month in various employee groups. Example: fa's apply through a benefits administrator appointed by the union to distribute benefits after a fourteen day waiting period. Prior to the fourteen days, coverage is given from a "sick bank" provided the fa has the hours built up in it. Presently 6 hours are accredited to this sick bank per month and the hours are deducted for actual flight time missed or at four hours per day if the fa is sitting on reserve. Very soon this system will be converted to AC's formula which is different. Office employees have regular sick days per year (not sure how many) with no waiting period or sick bank.

I believe they are hiring for permanent full time as I recall seeing it in The Toronto Star.

I remember you are a high school student Agincourt or have you completed it since one of their requirement was completion of grade 12 or academic equivalent?

I think they will probably sent you a letter inviting you to interview, but I am sure they wanted the jobs to be filled ASAP especially with the chaos lately so they might call you instead.

Agincourt, application for what, fa? If so, you will probably receive a standard letter acknowledging receipt of your app. and most likely be contacted by telephone for an interview. I believe it is still a three interview process with a complete medical required for the third.

The best of luck to you!

Hi everyone, thanks for the information so far.

Hi Empress, yes I'm a still a high school student (of Agincourt Collegiate Institute ), I just finished Grade 12 this June and expected to graduate in 2001.

Hi A Flygirl, no, I'm not applying for FA, I'm applying for CSA as AC mentioned in their website.

Hello YYZAC, thanks for your advise of being 'hooked' first. Exactly, I want to see how messy the current situation is because I love to deal with problem, especially people with problem! Even now, I'm still a sales representative with a marketing company which mainly deals with people.

I wanted to work for an airline, especially CP, for a long long time since I first flew with them 8 years ago when they carried me to here from HK. However, since AC's now the new owner of CP and they're hiring now, why would I want to miss this chance?

Anyway, I really believe in making a nice journey for every passengers will give them a life long memory, just like what CP did to me 8 years ago. So, serving is my pleasure to give, honestly. (okok, I won't say anymore junk stuff...)

Well, I am looking forward to seeing everyone of you soon in YYZ and working with everyone at AC and CP, including YYZAC and A Flygirl. (Well, only if my dream can takes flight... )

I play in a huge sandbox with my Tonka Toys.......

Well on good days it is a fun job.

I am a Lead on the ramp, my duties are numerous but I think the most recognizable duty is the vest and wands.... My responsabilities include the safe orderly unloading and loading of aircraft, expeditious delivery of baggage to the customer.

Now enough of the recrutment speech; regardless of your background you will find it challenging. Basically we are in the business of customer service. Problems always arise and you must solve them, at times you will not please everyone but one smile sure does make a differance.

You will encounter Alot of bashing (especially AC), don't let it bother you.

Right now is the time to apply there will be no chance like this again!

regards YYZAC
