Build up those orphaned mile accounts for Hilton use

Don't know what to do with some of those orphaned miles?

For those of you with orphaned miles in American AAdvantage or Delta SkyMiles (and other ff programs that allow Reward Exchange with Hilton HHonors), consider using each of your orphaned miles accounts as the account of choice until you build up round numbers of 5,000, 10,000 etc orphaned miles. Then transfer them to Hilton HHonors for reward stays. Once you have topped up one orphan mile account you can switch to crediting them to another orphan mile account or to your regular airline account.

Most of us don't need the miles in our regular airline accounts, so it is a good way to make the miles work a little harder for us in our orphan accounts.

You get 500 airline miles per stay and it doesn't take long to top up your orphaned miles accounts. With most of the participating airlines now doing a 2:1 exchange, it means you are at least getting some value for those orphaned miles. 5,000 miles transfers to 10,000 HHonors points.

I am referring to designating your orphan accounts as the ff program to credit your airline points to when doing stays under Hilton HHonors program.

It is also good to designate these "orphaned" airline FF accounts as the miles option when renting cars.

As BlondeBomber mentions, the goal is to build up just enough miles in these orphaned accounts so that you can make a transfer to HHonors. As soon as you have enough to transfer to HHonors, you should start working on accumulating FF miles in the next orphaned account. By transferring these orphaned miles to HHonors, at least you will receive some benefit from them.

Actually had I not given them up for adoption to Hilton I probabably have generated enough United Orpan miles to generate a free flight.

I am 150 short of 5000 right now just waiting for a Safeway 150 to post

If you want to tranfer DL Skymiles to HH, better do so by Feb. 28.

I love it when I see a tip that is something I do on a regular basis. I think I have 23 miles on CO and 324 on DL. I keep telling my wife to eat at an Idine restaurant as she is 330 shy of 5000 on DL and time is running out, but somewhow she never remembers.

Wish I could do the same tramsfer with US AIR. I am glad I waited on my Kellogss AA miles because they are now 1 mile = 2 HHonors points.
