I am from Reno. It is an unsafe location with frequent police activity in the surrounding area and a homeless problem in the surrounding area. The parking lot is very, very, very, very brightly lit... so take that for what it is worth. Night is particularly bad in this area; it does not have a good vibe. The attached casino (not operated by the hotel) attracts a very interesting local customer base. It is smoke filled and less than pleasant. The hotel itself is a very old Holiday Inn building which ran briefly as an independent then went to Ramada. I do not think they did much renovating since it was a Holiday Inn. I believe the restaurant downstairs operated by the hotel is only open at breakfast. The casino has a short order snack bar (not operated by the hotel) that is open 24 hours, very cheap in price, limited seating, on the smoke filled casino floor.

thank you for your honesty. I hesitated to book it for several reasons (like a comment about something in the parking lot a few years ago). any properties you would recommend for 2 nights this week?

I'm at the days inn right now. Just a few miles south of the strip. Nothing sexy, but it's clean and surrounded by a lot of stores/restaurants too.
the Go Fast rate was too good to pass up! But if you don't want to use points, there's also a promo right now for "stay 2 nights, save 20%" or something like that. Rooms were like $41 each night under the promo I think.
the area seems fine and safe. All together, I'd rather be here than at the Ramada's location. Might be dependent on where you need to go though and if you have a car.
one thing I can say for sure: do not stay at the Travelodge on the strip! I did that before...bad idea haha!

I'm sure this casino is a magnet for people who are better off not crossing paths in a dark alley. I think there are definitely illegal drug deals going on behind the smoke in the casino. Why do people still go to real casinos, especially in an area like this? We live in the age of technology and everyone can play at the casino anytime, anywhere via their smartphone. Why do people consciously take risks if they can just go to, for example, clubvip777.com and be more secure from both humans and the coronavirus. I've always said that conservatism never leads people to something good.
