I'm a pleasure traveller. I do like to dress a bit smarter on the plane so will wear something like linen pants and a shirt. Last trip I wore sparkly diamonte sandals where the strap was shaped like a snake that went around my ankle with the head between my toes. They must of looked smart as I had 3 airline workers, including a customs inspector, not normally known for their chattiness, tell me she loved my shoes.

When at my destination I usually just wear shorts or 3/4 length trousers and a casual top but never a t-shirt. I'll happily wear flip flops, but dressier ones. I don't go to cold destinations so my 'uniform' is usually the same. I'll usually change twice a day so I take about 10 tops for a week long holiday and if I'm away longer I'll just get them dry cleaned at the hotel.

I'll take one handbag usually a cream coloured one. If it doesn't quite match my outfit, I don't really care when on holidays. Nobody knows me. I'd rather that than carry 2 or 3 bags to match and then also have to swap everything over.

On the plane, if it's an overnight flight I change in to yoga pants and a long sleeve sweater and will take off my wireless bra and put on a sports top or one of those new fangled ahh bra or genie bra's that really don't have much support for day wear but for sitting/sleeping on a plane they are fine.

My wardrobe is overflowing and very colorful. When I travel for leisure/visiting family, I try to pick and choose clothing that are suitable for the occasion. For instance, when meeting up family during Christmas, I would bring:

Pink down jacket
White wool sweater/jumper
A pair of lined jeans
Red-pink-white wool plaid skirt
Brown-pink plaid skirt
Green wool skirt
4 tops- pink turtleneck, red turtleneck, brown reindeer top, white moose top.
4 tights/leggings- red, pink, brown, white
A nice dress
Knee high boots
Matching gloves and scarf
2 sets of PJs (Christmas themed too!)
Red, green scrunchies and hair clips
Red nail polish
Panties and bras

I wear mainly stuff from Abercrombie, Hollister, Justice and Gap. Where do you usually shop?

After years of hoarding clothing... ie. buying more than I should, I finally figured out the formula for what I can wear anywhere/all the time. 90% of the time I am wearing ankle boots, skinny jeans, t-shirt and blazer.

In the end, my bag usually looks like:
1 x Black Skinny Pants
1 x Medium-wash Rag&Bone Skinnies (They're actually amazing. They make me look uber tall. )
3 x V-neck Black T-shirts (black, grey, white)
4 x Light Blazers/Jackets (I have some crazy colourful/metallic jackets)
1 x Black Dress

Other necessities:
1 x hoodie and/or sweater
1 x skirt
1 x Bikini
1 x PJ
1 x boots
1 x flip flops
2 x heels, strappy and not.

Bra, Underwear, Socks + Toiletries.

Edit:
- love Gap and American Apparel for t-shirts,
- Rag&Bone for pants,
- Maje, Scotch & Soda, Smythe, and Isabel Marant for sweaters and jackets.

As my name suggests, I’m (mildly) fashion obsessed and totally preppy! ☺ As my friends often say, if forced to choose between clothing and a nice apartment (which I sadly must, for now), I choose clothing! ☺

I guess my bag(s) (Lilly Pulitzer, of course) don’t look too different for business or pleasure, since I’m a tucked-in, buttoned-up, crisp collar and pearls kind of girl no matter the occasion. But my bag, for a week long trip anywhere not beach related, is usually some variation on the following:

5x Non-Iron Fitted Stretch Collared Dress Shirt (2x White (1x french cuff), 1 Pink, Blue and Black) (Brooks Brothers) (Work & Play)
1x Black Short Sleeved Dress (Brooks Brothers) (Work only)
1x Black Blazer (Ann Taylor) (Work Only)
1x Navy Blazer (Ralph Lauren) (Work & Play)
3x Dress Trousers (Black, Navy, Dune) (Brooks Brothers) (For Play – 1x black only)
2x Pencil Skirt (Navy Pinstripe, Black) (Brooks Brothers) (Work only)
1x Denim Pencil Skirt (JCrew) (Play only)
2x Shirt Dress (Black, Beige) (Anatomie, Ann Taylor) (Work & Play)
1x Pink Skinny Jean (Ralph Lauren) (Play only)
1x Super Skinny Jean (Ralph Lauren) (Play only)
2x Trousers (Cobalt Blue, Lime Green) (Play only)
1x Black Pumps (Work Only)
2x Cardigan Sweaters (Black, Navy) (For Play – 1x only)
1x Crewneck Sweater (Pink or Lime Green) (Play Only) (Ralph Lauren)
1x V-Neck Sweater (Pink or Lime Green) (Play Only) (Ralph Lauren)
2x Ballet Flats (My favorite too! – Owned in many fun colors!)
Matching Pearl Necklace, Bracelet and Earrings (Work and Play)
Tiffany Charm Bracelet (Work and Play)
2x Skinny Belts (Black and Something Fun – Pink? Gold? Silver? Leopard Print?) (Work and Play)
1x Preppy Stripe Tie Belt (Brooks Brothers) (Play Only)
1x 50/50 Boot (Stuart Weitzmann) (Play in the fall and winter)
2x Heels (Whatever strikes me! - But usually Work and Play acceptable)
2x Yoga Pants (Work & Play) (Lululemon)
1x Sports Bra (Work & Play) (Lululemon)
1x Long Sleeve Exercise Top (Work & Play) (Lululemon)
1x Short Sleeve Exercise Top (Work & Play) (Lululemon)
Sunglasses! (Work & Play) (Prada or Karen Walker)

Assorted T-Shirts, Undergarments, make-up, nail polish, hair clips, toiletries, hair care items and other goodies ☺

I’m a Brooks Brothers, Ralph Lauren, J-Crew, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor and Lululemon kind of girl. Who’s with me? ☺

This completely depends on the activity/type of trip.

Business/biz casual trips:
1 pr trousers
1 pr skirt
a matching blazer if needed
a few silk shells if blazer is brought along.
a number of twinsets
1 pr jeans for afterwork
a few t-shirts/other tops for afterwork
1 LDB
Low-heeled shoes to go with suit
Ballet flats for casual.
Orthotics
1 pr PJs
slippers
2 scarves.
socks, undies, bras etc

My colour scheme usually revolves around my black suits and charcoal grey knit skirt.
All fits compactly in a carry-on sized rolling case

For a casual/active trip:
1 pr black Macabi skirt
1 pr black knit knee length skirt (formerly Roots but now replaced by Prana Jenna)
1 pr cotton leggings (if not summer)
1 pr Jeans
2 dressy tops
a number of tank tops/t-shirts according to weather
Merrell Mary Jane style shoes that have a light hiking sole.
Lindsay Phillips ballet slippers or dressy heeled sandals with interchangeable straps
Chacos (maybe depending on trip)
slippers for room (may be flipflops or terry slippers depending on type of trip)

Water sports trip of 1 week or more, am & pm in the water:
4-5 swimsuits to allow drying time.
a number of cotton tank dresses that double as PJs at night.
1 sarong
2 t-shirts/tank tops
1 Macabi skirt
2 towels
chacos
flip flops that double as slippers
Raincoat
sports gear

For the casual/vacation trips, my colour scheme is whatever I have that I can get the most use out of.

I use a 22" wheeled carryon plus a large under seat carryon. What you wear on the plane is part of your packing strategy so for an 9 day January trip to Europe I wore dark stretch jeans, a fleece pullover & scrunch neck, long wraparound cashmere cardigan, black leather Mary Janes, and tucked my coat in my under seat carryon. With the clothes on my back, I had four mix and match outfits and admittedly I was sick of my not-so-fresh by the end.

2 pairs black stretch jeans
1 dressier black pants
1 stylish jacket (did not wear)
1 dressier blazer sweater
1 boyfriend sweater
4 lightweight scrunch necks
1 pair dressier patent loafers
1 pair low boots
"Room clothes" (soft fleece pullover and elastic waist pull on pants)
Slippers, PJS & a robe
Underwear, socks, a scarf and some jewelry

The most useful item was the oversize black cashmere sweater, which I wound up wearing every day because it would layer over everything as well as class it up. Next most useful were my comfy room clothes, which I could pull on to go down to breakfast without getting done up for the day.

On the plane I usually wear loose linen/cotton pants and a dressy shirt. I wear flat sandals (usually glittery) that I can slip on and off easily. If it's an overnight flight I change in to a wireless bra or sports top for comfort.

If I am away for 7 days to a tropical destination I might usually take, apart from what I wear on the plane

5 or 6 shirts (and plan for dry cleaning - I change 2 or 3 times a day)
12 plus pairs of underpants (I don't like sending my underwear to the laundry! so do my own in my room!)
2 or 3 pairs of shorts
1 pair of long pants
Casual flip flops (hey it's good enough for movie stars to wear them!)

I travel for pleasure and like to dress casually but nice.

What's a boyfriend sweater?

A boyfriend sweater is a longer length cardigan with larger buttons, patch pockets on the hip, and a deep vee neckline. Casual and slimming.

My trips have been ranging from 1-4 weeks in a variety of cultures/climates. I'm a backpacker with the odd music gig mixed in. Last trip I did 10 days of observation in hospitals/clinics as well. This is my current list:

Wear:
Calvin Klein raincoat (it is purple, has a pleated skirty bottom that makes it look like a tennis dress. I'm not girly so this is good for me, and it makes any outfit instantly dressy.
Optional depending on climate: UNIQLO ultralightweight down coat, that comes past hips (the longer one). It packs up into a little bag.
Leggings/loose pants- depends on country. My middle east trip and Turkey required loose pants.
If leggings- wear compression socks over, if not, wear under.
I wear one of the shirts/dresses over these as described below
Comfy brown loafers (aerosoles) or black ballet slip ons (jessica simpson) if I have classical gigs

------------------------------
Pack:
Jansport cordillera 33 backpack. Probably retiring soon and looking for a 1-2 lb pack. Hope I can find a good replacement!

Avia quick-dry short sleeve for hiking, etc
1 long sleeve sweater (weight depending on climate- wool for cold, etc)
Black poly dressy shirt- no wrinkles, can wear on gigs, goes with everything
White boys' tunic (thobe)- the material doesn't seem to wrinkle, subtly exotic, cost $2, and it's got pockets! Looks great over jeans/leggings, works for modest cultures, you can tuck it in or belt it for different looks. Mine comes down to mid-thigh, it's definitely for a little boy, not an adult.
1 patterny or colored shirt that doesn't wrinkle easily
1 pr lightweight, dark jeans, or black pants. If I have fancy music gigs, I bring the black pants
2-3 prs quick dry socks from Japan- depends on how much hiking I'm doing
As many panties as I can (pain to wash these)
1-2 bras apart from the one I've on
1 dress that packs well (poly blend).
2 scarves- one smaller silk one and one larger pashmina (usually wear). Pashmina doubles as neck roll.
Merrell Pace Glove sneakers/x trainers/whatever they are
1 pr flip flops that look dressy enough but can get wet
Slipper socks

Optional: pr of PJ pants , extra T-shirt/long sleeve T for sleeping, etc, wool hat/gloves for cold weather, boots if cold weather (wear on plane if opt for these), lab coat, swimsuit

In additional to the usual items:

For business trips:
I've found black cashmere sweaters to be very versatile. Mine is a V-neck pullover. Add a few colourful neck scarves to the mix. Only one purse that goes with everything. Black yoga pants to travel in. Never any jeans due to bulk. Black Icebreaker wool socks that won't stink after several days. For winter travel I have a mid-thigh length long sleeved Icebreaker wool sweater wrap with ties and a shoulder button. It can be tied/buttoned/wrapped several different ways

For tropical destinations:
3-4 swimsuits, sarong or beach wrap, flip flops, sports sandals, quick dry shirts and shorts that will dry easily in the humid tropical air, loose fitting sundress and floppy sun hat. I have found reef shoes to be indispensable on rocky beaches and rough clam shell-filled sand.

I try to stick with one color scheme for the entire trip, usually starting with shoes. Black or brown/taupe. Everything else is planned around that so I don't have to have multiple purses, shoes, etc. I lay out everything I think I need and then put half of it back. Most of us aren't traveling places that don't have stores if we need something. I used to be a heavy packer, but doing it this way is more freeing.

Great advice from my friend: she takes clothes that are almost "done" - i.e., worn enough, so she can pitch once she's done wearing. I just sorted my closet and have 4 huge buckets of clothes to give to Goodwill - nothing out of style, but just not my favorites anymore. For my next few trips, I'll just pick from there and then donate them when I'm done in the country that I'm visiting.

And I always pack running clothes/shoes, because a new place is best seen on foot, IMO!
