DIA -- grocery stores in the vicinity?

We have a couple of hours to kill before the rest of my extended family arrives for our ski vacation in DIA. Are there any grocery stores around there where we could get the shopping done while we wait?

Nope. DIA is in the middle of nowhere. You can find stores along I-70 as you drive west. Your last chance to pay city prices is Evergreen, but its a bit of a drive off the freeway (~8 minutes). There is a City Market in Dillon if you prefer to do you shopping in the mountains.

PM me if you need more info.

Actually, City Market is a part of the Kroger's chain. Whatever is on sale at King Soopers stores in Denver will also be on sale at the City Market in Dillon about 90% of the time. We now do the majority of our grocery shopping in Dillon instead of lugging boxes of groceries from home.

There is also a Costco just north of I-70 at Wadsworth Blvd.

Yep, middle of nowhere.

BUT, while you can't shop at DIA, you can shop at the old airport! It has been redeveloped into a massive housing & retail community. From I-70, just a few miles west of Pena Blvd, exit at Quebec St - there is shopping both to the north and south. For example, a King Soopers is south on Quebec at 29th, in the Town Center. It might be a good area to pick up any other supplies people forgot - reading material at Borders, ski supplies at sport shops. Here is a link to more information: Stapleton Retail.

Great help, thanks!

Thanks for all the help, guys. It's much appreciated. The Costco sounds great, as do the Stapleton and Dillon suggestions.

Actually, there is a grocery store (I think King Soopers/Kroger) in the Green Valley Ranch area. Just down the road (Pena Blvd) you take out of DIA - exit left on 48th St/Green Valley Ranch Road. Drive a couple of miles and the shopping center is on your left.

roxchick rocks! Yep there is a King Stoopid's at that location; with a fuel station too!
I always refuel rental cars there, it SO much less crowded than Conoco and significantly less expensive per gallon (.20/gal I believe).

Yes, that store is there. (I used to live at the apartments at 48th & Pena. The store opened shortly after I left. That ALWAYS happens.) But it is still several miles from the airport. You are almost at I-70 by then. By the time you get the rental car and get out there and shop and return to DIA and find parking, it may not save you much time. But if one hates waiting around, it is the closest option.

Like most Costco's, this one has a gas station with good prices. Just west of Wadsworth, I-76 merges with I-70. The warehouse is on the west side of Wadsworth just north of both interstates. As soon as you get on Wadsworth heading north, you need to be prepared to turn left to get to the access road to Costco.
