Again...rental cars in PHX

OK, sorry for asking again:

I need to rent a Mini-Van out ouf Phoenix for cheap this summer. Currently I have reserved a car with Dollar out of their Tempe Holiday Inn Location at a total of 240,87$ for a week including taxes.

This is a decent rate, however with Dollar I have to pay 5$ a day for an additional driver. Alamo has obviously just decided to close their location at West Greenway (they matched the 199$ a week base-rate of Dollar and offer one free additional for their Fastbreak customers) as they have no cars at all available there (same with National who used to share the location).

Both Hertz and Avis (where I get my Spouse as additional driver for free) finally have lots of good local locations (off airport to avoid the horrid taxes there), but their prices for a Minivan are just out of this world.

So basically this is my question: How can I get a Minivan in Phoenix for ~240$ including two drivers for a week in August...;-)?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Greetings - Dirk

Have you tried Priceline yet? I always use them for rental cars.

You might also take a look at biddingfortravel.com to get an idea of prices people are paying.

Hi Dirk,

Budget is showing a weekly deal for $209/week, but only beginning August 21, and apparently, "only at participating airport locations". Everything else I see in town is $299.

I think you've got a good rate--I'd expect to pay $45 - $50 a day here, if not more, for a mini van.

Hope you have a good visit to our fair city. Drop me a note if I may be of help.

JP

Trust me, I know Priceline...;-)! However I do not think they will be able to beat my price, as I need a total of something like 215$ including taxes, and Priceline only rents out of the airport, so that would add something like 20% in additional taxes, and my maximum bid could be something like 20$ a day...

James: Thanks for your help...maybe we can make it this time? I am in Phoenix from August 20th...

Greetings - Dirk

I leave for New Zealand on the 22nd. Let me know if you'd like to schedule a small "do", as we did for the banking scot...
