As questions related to individual airports reside in the individual Destination fora, we'll move this over to the USA-West forum for further discussion. Thanks. /JY1024, TravelBuzz co-moderator

They need a taxi license from the city/state/uber but they can drive an uberx ubersuv uberselect etc. The poster above is incorrect on price though. If I take an uberx to my house from Phx its $25-35 vs $60-$80 for a cab. You can also use lyft which is slightly cheaper than uber.

The short answer is no, 99% of UberX drivers will not be able to pick you up at the airport. Some of the taxi cab companies here are running an UberX/taxi cab company hybrid here where they give you a Prius to drive UberX with and you cut them in on 50% of your revenue, and they can pick up at the airport, I do believe.

Apparently, Lyft drivers shouldn't be able to pick up at the airport, but their app still allows them to do so, illegally. On the Uber app, it won't even allow normal UberX drivers to pick up pings at the airport. Of course, Uber drivers can always drop off at the airport. The ability to pick up at the airport is based on a contract, and only x number of cars are allowed per the contract, and I believe the only two companies than are permitted to pick up is Green Air and Yellow.

Source: I drive UberX in Phoenix as a side job.

Couldn't the OP take the skytrain from the terminal to 40th/Washington and catch Uber/Lyft from there?

As far as I know that's not considered part of "the airport".

I suppose you could, but that seems like a bit of a hassle, though.

If Uber is not "really" available what is the best suggestion for a ride to Scottsdale when there are 4 pax with large suitcases? An SUV is the logical answer but from which company?

I quite often seen a long line of black cars and SUVs waiting presumably for fares/pax at the 44th St. and Washington transit center.

Funny you mentioned this. Uber sends out a weekly email to drivers in the Valley. Picking up at 44 St was mentioned as a work around for Sky Harbor in last week's email.
