B1, you're so right. The regular car rental situation at PHX is a total rip-off. We had friends who rented there one time - in August - and waited an hour in line. Always rent at Enterprise Phoenix East to save tons of money and hassle, too. If it's hot while you're waiting for the shuttle to pick you up, stand by the glass wall inside the a/c on the ground level.

One thing - the city offices of Enterprise (as well as all other brands) are closed by 6 pm weekdays and are closed on Sundays. So if you arrive or depart outside the business hours, you need to have a plan.
Trip report: The Sky Train was almost as much fun as a roller coaster. I called Enterprise before we got on the train and they were there in less than five minutes when we arrived.. I gave the fellow $5. The service at Enterprise was courteous and they gave me upgrades and more discounts. I took the card they had for the cab company they use. On the return, our flight was at 6 am so I had to return the car before 6 pm of the previous day. We spent that night at the La Quinta- Arcadia, which is a five minute walk from Enterprise (there is no other reason to stay there). I used the cab recommended by Enterprise. It cost $10 to be driven to the airport at 4:30 am. Excellent all around experience and thanks again. The total cost for a week's rental of an intermediate car was $160, all in. The airport site was charging more than double that and you would have to ride in that bus that is for all companies and terminals.

I found out about the crews who accidentally cuts a wires. That was not his fault. He made a mistake. Go easy on the jobs.

After careful consideration I have come to the conclusion the sky train at PHX sucks

Rode it for the first time yesterday. If you want to get from T4 - T3 and vice versa it's fine. However I needed to get from 4 to 2 parking so I took the train where it ends at 3. There is no escalator only an elevator to get to the "walkway". People were way backed up. Why didn't they extend the track to T2? Useless.

The walk is fairly long. Always a nice walk on a cool, August day in Phoenix

They are going to extend it to Terminal 2, it's just going to take a few more years (2020 I think).

Furthermore, just because a transit system doesn't fit one person's needs hardly makes it "useless". It's a much better feature to get to the light rail station than the buses they used to run.

I used the Skytrain a few weeks ago for the first time also, from the East Economy garage to T4. Compared with Parking Spot, it wasn't nearly as good. I felt like just one of hundreds plodding along (while Parking Spot picks me up at my car/drops me off there, has a newspaper outgoing, water on the return).
I think the price was actually a little higher to be in the garage than Parking Spot also.

I think T4 was the priority for Skytrain since that is what most people use. Then T3, which I think is the 2nd most used terminal.
Why are you flying out of T2?

The long range plan is to eventually close and demolish T2, which would explain why they're not going to run the train out to it. UA, which is the largest tenant of T2, will be moving to T3 permanently once the renovations are done.

I don't know if you've been in T2 lately, but it's a dump. It needs to go. 1970 is calling, they want their terminal back.

I always fly out of T2. I'm a United flyer.

That day was an exception. My UA flight from SAT-IAH-PHX was jacked up due to Houston weather so the UA agent put me on a US non stop SAT-PHX.

Is the Skytrain secure-side? I'd like to check out T3 while flying into/out of T4.

No, it's on the land-side parts of each terminal. Though trust me, you are not missing anything by not seeing T3.

Then there is this historic tile mural of the phoenix that will soon meet a wrecking ball. Just a short walk to T2 from SkyTrain T3 station.
