So is the 20.5" seat width with or without the armrests down? If that's with the armrests up, what would you estimate the total seat width is?

Only the outer armrests come down. I would guess that the armrests provide roughly 4" of extra width when down.

Certainly going to be a challenge to sleep comfortably in these seats if you've broad shouldered (or just broad, full stop )

Trying to make a decision on whether to stick with our upgraded C seats on UA (should be new config) to SYD or switch over to V Australia and try their C at the promotional fare. It appears as though the 23.5" seat width reported by UA is with the armrest down--basic seat width is 19", which makes the VA seat a bit wider (20.5") to start. But both seats seem like a tight squeeze. Thanks for the input, stargold.

Personally I would fly VA. The fare is not to bad and I think the soft touches will be better (ie service).

You are also in their best cabin (and can try out the bar)!

Is it just me, or does VA's premium economy look like it lacks legrests?
