Sorry but this is false information, luckily several people stepped in before you did in this thread to offer correct advice.

DL and only DL has obligation to get their ticketed passengers to their destination. VA does not have control over a DL booking, even on day of departure. I have confirmed this with VA staff at the airport on the day of departure more than once. They cannot change a flight on a DL ticket. They would have to go through DL to do so.
