Sorry if this is old news!

From a travel trade mag this week 'Virgin Atlantic management is to visit Hong Kong this week to try to win permission to start flights to Australia.The carrier need to gain Fifth Freedom rights from the HK government to allow it to stop over at the destinatiom before carrying on its journey to Australia.It also has to gain official confirmation from the Australian government but it is believed this will be granted following a meeting with the Australian tourism minister'

Managing director Steve Ridgway said' The HK government is keen for more capacity to the country.The only problem is from other carriers such as Cathay Pacififc looking to protect their own market.'

Sir Richrd Branson added 'We would like to be flying to Australia before the end of the year.I have a holiday booked there at Christmas and would like to fly there on my own airline.'
