JFK and IAD Lounge Access (SFO price change)

http://www.virginamerica.com/va/news...d=showNewsMore

All lounges are $35 fixed price at all open hours.

SFO is now only open during VS hours (11:30am - 3:30pm) :-(
IAD is open from 3pm - 7pm (First Class and MCS only)
JFK is open from 2:30pm - 9pm (First Class and MCS only)

I'm sort of amused by the fact that they want to "capacity control" the JFK/IAD VS Clubhouses... but there wasn't enough demand at SFO to justify keeping THAT one open past when the VS passengers left, and SFO has FAR more potential customers than either JFK/IAD (since you have anyone flying SEA, LAS or LAX, as well as BOTH JFK/IAD transcon customers).

My suspicion is that it just wasn't worth the money to pay for the extra staff to keep SFO open, since aviators99 mentioned he was sometimes the only person there. Ah, well.

It's sad about SFO. Poor Mike is now without a job...

I've never been to the JFK clubhouse, but I can tell you that the IAD clubhouse is really, really tiny, and can't really support the VS F customers they get now. I only know that because I've read about it, and could see the entirety of it when I tried to muscle my way in once. I will get to use it for real on 1/28 :-)

is the JFK lounge airside or landside? Would I have to go through security to access the lounge? also, does the lounge have luggage storage?

thanks.

Looks like it's landside. Don't know about luggage. You don't need to go through security, but you must have an F or MCS ticket to be able to pay for admittance (at the check-in counter).

Btw, at IAD it's airside (if they haven't moved it).

How do the clubhouse showers work? Are there lockers? Towels?

Also, is the food and drinks all-you-can-eat/drink?

Do you tip for food/drinks?

I don't know the answer to the shower question.

Food and drinks are all-you-can-eat/drink (at SFO).

I have tipped (at SFO). At least one of the people tried to refuse the tip...

Usually $10, and once $20 (for extraordinary service).

But don't go by me. I usually end up being an over-tipper.

The IAD hours are unfortunate -- I have to take a late evening flight to SFO soon, and was thinking it would be neat to finally experience the VS club at IAD before the 8:55 p.m. VA flight. Alas, the IAD lounge closes right at 7 p.m., and I probably would only have arrived at Dulles at that time.

Usually I fly UA on the transcons to California, so while I may still try VA for the first time, I won't be able to experience the VS club. Even in SFO, the morning hours on certain days of the week are hardly worth it for the noon return flight to IAD.

A number of US airlines do not include lounge admission with their paid F fares (UA, US and DL, for instance) so VX isn't unusual in that regard.
