VX Farewell Flight 1948 - 24 April
I'm hearing that AAG doesn't plan on doing anything, corporate wise, for VX 1948, 24 APR SFO-LAX; this is the "shared" final VX departure that's open to the public. I'm hoping pressure will give AAG a change of heart, or maybe we can turn it into a FlyerTalk DO-inflight :P
The other is SFO-EWR at the same time. AAG did, however, approve the flight to be operated by an A321. I know some people are buying tickets for it as a final "hurrah" to Virgin, including myself. Wasn't sure if anyone else wanted to be a part of one of the final, if not final VX departure that's open to the public.

I'm open to doing this but the VX planes themselves will still be flying through next year. After 4/24, you just book on Alaska's website and look for the Airbus flights.

The husband and I are booked on this flight. I'm sure the stations will be considering it a special moment, even if it's not officially anything specific (VX1948 LAX-SFO will be the last to depart, VX1182 SFO-EWR will be the last to land, VX1122 OGG-LAX will be the last to land at LAX, etc etc). But the subbing in of the 321 gives me hope for a festive admosphere. Stuff like this is always fun. We did the final CX 747 flight, and that was quite the party. If any US airline knows how to party, it's VX. (Although UA had a surprisingly good show for their final 747 flight.)
We're excited and hope to see some of you there!

Calanman, I'm coming in from a trip from BA - will be meeting my VX/AS friend that arranged for the plane to be an A321, and hop over to the CX lounge for an hour or two.
I'm wondering if we can arrange for this to be a FlyerTalk send off as well? I know that FT has helped organize DOs and make donations, etc. I'm sure we all have enough Alaska contacts to make something "fun" for this flight. I'm hoping we can at least organize *SOMETHING* to say goodbye to VX.

+2 here. My wife and I just changed our tickets to a one stop at SFO (arrives SFO two hours before VX1948). Anyone could swipe both of us into the CX lounge if the party is held there?

Awesome. Glad to have confirmation.
If we are going to organize ourselves a bit, I'd vote that we do it in T2, not the CX lounge. Though the CX lounge is very nice, it's in an entirely different terminal from where VX's presence is. If we get together in T2, then it guarantees that all of us booked on the flight can join, and we'll be surrounded by VX gates, planes and employees. I'd be super sad to realize that a handful of us were eating noodles in the international terminal while a raffle or speech or whatever was happening at the VX gates.
If people really want to get together in a lounge, then I'd say that the AA lounge in T2 is still a better choice, even though it's no longer part of the AS lounge network and it's not as nice as CX's. It's in the right terminal, anyone with a AA Exec CC or AA lounge membership can get in, and they sell day passes if anybody really wants to join and can't find someone to swipe them in, which CX doesn't do. And you can see VX planes from its windows, and VX planes are why we're doing this!

I will be on this flight and can't wait to see some of you! I am sitting in 1A and will fly into SFO via VX 1255 from IND, which will arrive SFO at 6:28pm.
I don't expect anything but hope that AS and VX will do something!
