Of course, VS-VX is no longer an option.

Is there an expectation/knowledge of when VX miles will be convertible to AS miles? I understand the conversion rate, and that more information will be released on Jan 9, but are we looking at VX->AS conversion functionality on Jan 9, or months down the road? I'd love to do a transfer of SPG-VX-AS but I'll need to use the miles in April so just trying to assess risk.

I take it that the conversion won't only be in increments of 1,000 points? That wouldn't make sense, correct?
(Trying to determine how many points to transfer from SPG to AS; save a few hundred SPG points.)

It could be until they fully merge the two accounts. Transfer between SPG and MR has to be in increments of 1K (in that case, you could technically transfer less than 1K by transferring MR points back to SPG in increments of 1K MR points).

Sorry, but what's MR? Membership Rewards? How does MR fit into this?

Better act fast. According to Frugal Travel Guy, SPG is dropping VX as both a transfer partner and an earning partner after 1/6.

I created a VX account specifically to move SPG points into AS. No email here.
I wouldn't be too surprised if they hold off a day given how swamped AS's CS department must be with the storm right now.
