No need, UA short-haul awards are 10K o/w. You could also use Avios on AA (routing via PHX) if you'd rather connect than have to drive from LAX or pay for UA or WN. As bayhouse noted, VX to SNA was nice while it lasted, but apparently not profitable.

Right! They tried SJC, SNA, and YYZ, as well. They couldn't have a profitable and they couldn't completing against by another airlines.

Correct! They tried it before and couldn't workout well. They didn't make it.
