Best and worst features of Elevate?

Hello

I am about to become a road warrior and ideally would like to build up some status with an airline. Specific to Elevate what are some of the best and wost features of the program?

Thanks in advance.

There is no status with Virgin America as of now. Just earn points and can redeem them, at not so great values.

Elevate is about as crap as Velocity, its not the sort of mileage run airline. Better than nothing as I always say.

I wonder in the future if we will see one big Virgin FF covering VAus,Blue,America,Atlantic. Hope so.

I doubt it as they have different majority ownership.

The V FF programs are beginning to have partnering. For example, beginning next month, you can redeem VS miles for a VX award flight. You can also redeem VS miles for a VA award flight, etc. There are now interlining baggage agreements between carriers as well. You can earn VS miles by flying DJ. You can also earn and redeem VS miles by riding Virgin trains.

Oh...that press release.........Well, since neither one of these two options was available "as of today" - in August of last year...

1) As of today, guests flying on Virgin Atlantic, Virgin America and V Australia/Virgin Blue are all eligible to earn miles or points for their flights that can later be redeemed under any of the carriers frequent flyer programs.

2) Also as of today....V Australia/Virgin Blue Velocity members and Virgin America Elevate members will be eligible to spend their miles or points to fly on either airline as of the fourth quarter of 2010.

I wouldn't hold out much hope for #3.....

3) Virgin Atlantic Flying Club members and Virgin America Elevate members will be eligible to spend their miles or points on either airline as of the second quarter of 2011.

I feel the same way about that as well. I have VX and VS programs and I keep earning miles separately, in other words, credit the VS flights to VS FC, credit the VX flights to VX Elevate. Once you cross earn miles on each other's programs, it's poor value. IMO, the reason you would want to earn VS miles by flying VX is to earn tier points on VS if you are close to a threshold.
