Fifth Freedom Rules?
I didn't find the answer I was looking for from Google.
Virgin Atlantic flies from London > JFK > Austin. I want to just purchase the JFK > Austin route. Is that possible? Or that is a violation of one of the Freedoms of the Air?

Virgin Atlantic doesn’t fly JFK-AUS. That’s a code share. Even if they did operate it, it wouldn’t be 5th freedom.
Fifth freedom is airline from country A operating flight from country B to country C. But JFK and AUS are in the same country, so that’s why such a route wouldn’t be 5th freedom.
Only route within the US like that would be Qantas LAX-JFK. And no you can’t fly it stand-alone.
An example of 5th freedom would be Cathay Pacific flying JFK-YVR, which you can buy stand alone.

The "Virgin" flight you're looking at, VS4803 JFK-AUS, is actually a Delta Airbus A319. Its primary flight number today was DL2355. If the VS website will sell you that flight as VS4803 you may certainly fly it whatever your circumstance.
