Passport Agency Appointments (same day expedited service)
Appointments for same-day expedited service often go quickly. It is best that you schedule your appointment with the passport agency exactly 14 days before your trip. You will want to call the passport number before the center opens at 8am EST as they will have just opened up one day (14 days out) of appointments at all agencies. Appointment times start at 8am. It is important that you have enough buffer in your travel schedule. For example, if you make an appointment for a new passport at 11am and your time of travel is at 2pm, there will not be enough time for you to get your passport. If you book the 8am slot you may have to wait until the end of the business day to get your new passport or it may only be a few hours.
You will want to have your date of travel, time of travel, your flight itinerary number, name of destination, full name of applicant, and applicant's birth city, and the zip code of where you live (to help them find the closest available center with open slots). Use the following steps to increase your chances of success to booking an appointment as they can go very quickly:

Known office locator numbers (not complete)
Note: The office code (first two digits of your application locator number returned by Passport Status) is the office reviewing your documents and approving your application. It isn't necessarily the address you mailed the forms to (always Irving or Philadelphia for renewals) nor the facility where the book is physically printed and mailed (often Tucson or Hot Springs).

If you have a locator not in the above list, check the return address agency name or postmark/ZIP on your returned citizenship docs, or passport card if you applied for one, which may be the processing office, although the address itself is likely to be a PO Box in Sterling, VA in all cases (which appears to be a lockbox location that processes mail for all locations). The passport books are printed in fewer locations, often Hot Springs and Tucson, and may not correspond to the agency where the processing steps occurred. If it doesnt match the list above, please add or correct.

- At 7:55 am call the passport number 877-487-2778 (This have to be exactly 14 days before your plane ticket or less. If less, it will get harder to find an appointment)
- Click 1 (For English)
- Click 2 (New Passport)
- Continue to Click 7 to repeat, and keep doing this while watching your watch or using Time.gov to get the exact time down to the second.
- When your it hits exactly 8:00 am Click 2 (for traveling within 14 days option)
- There will be a delay of 3-4 second and you will wait for the next available agent. If you are very lucky, you will be put straight through to an agent. You may be waiting few minutes or maybe as long as 15-20 minutes.
- If you did not click 1 exactly at 8 am, you may have to wait for more than an hour and half

That made me want to check my routine service application. It is now saying "within 12 weeks" when it had said " within 10-12 weeks".
At least on the routine response, the bit about 6 weeks mailing time was already in there. Based on my USPS delivery receipt, that's actually 2-7 days USPS mailing time and 5 weeks sitting in State's mailroom time.

Will provide processing details as available:
3/15 Renewal Applications submitted
3/30 Status on Passport Application Status Page: Application Not Found (both applications).
Web page says if online status is "not found" after 2 weeks to call the center. Called around 3:50pm; 42 minutes on hold before speaking to service agent. Agent also did not find either application. Agent stated applications for minors are processed in Philadelphia after going through a postal security screening center which is very backed up; said check in another week and call back if still "not found."
4/15 Status on Passport Application Status Page: Application Not Found (both applications).
4/20 Received email notification applications received. Status webpage states: "The U.S. Department of State has received your application for your passport book and card on 04/20/2021. We're now reviewing your application and supporting documents. You requested routine service when you applied, which we are currently processing in 10-12 weeks. Your application locator number is xxx"
6/3 1711 hrs - Received email notification for both applications: "Application status: approved. You should receive your book and card around June 9."
6/3 1901 hrs - Received email notification for both applications: "DoS has shipped your book and card using Priority Mail. Click confirmation number xxxxx to track. You should receive passport around June 9."
Tracking number indicates passports/books being sent from Little Rock, Arkansas distribution center and should arrive on June 7. If they arrive as scheduled it will have taken 12 weeks from submission of application to delivery.

4/7 Mailed Application
5/7 Status Upgraded to In Process
I opted for standard processing times when I applied. Tomorrow will be 12 weeks from the day I applied/mailed my application and my application is still In Process. Now it is saying an extra 6 weeks could be added for mailing when I check the status! I contacted Aguilars office and was told they could help me possibly get an appointment in person for me when my trip was 2 weeks away but I would need to have requested expedited service. I don't leave for my trip till 7/23, should I just wait it out or try and call to upgrade to expedited service in case I need the in person appointment? I have 24 days till I leave but I feel like this is cutting it close. Any advice or positive vibes are much appreciated.

The 12 weeks of processing time actually begins once the status has changed to 'In Process.' In your case, the 12 weeks of processing began on 5/7. The 12 weeks doesn't include the 4 weeks of mailing time between 4/7 and 5/7. For those who are just now submitting their applications, the mailing time is expected to be 6 weeks instead of the estimated 4 weeks a couple weeks ago.

From the passport status website:
"...our processing time does not include mailing time"
As I pointed out before, their definition of mailing time includes "sitting in our mailroom" time, not just USPS transit time. It is 12 weeks from when when they logged it in and started processing it, in your case, 5/7.

HMMMM.....that directly contradicts what I was told 2 times when I called into the passport agency. They said my application time started on the day I mailed it 4/7. If what you are saying is true then there is no way I will receive it in time. I guess I need to call in and upgrade to expedited service then?

So I just waited on hold for 3 hours and finally got to a representative.
Once again she said that based on the time I mailed my application because it was so long ago, and before some new changes have taken place, my 10-12 weeks does indeed start from the TIME I MAILED MY APPLICATION from the UPS store. She is now the 3rd person from the agency to tell me this same information.
I nonetheless had her request to expedite my passport and request 1-2 day delivery time for around $77, This will at least give me the chance to use my congressman if I make it to the 2 week mark and no passport has arrived to get an in person appointment hopefully.
She said they are doing their best to honor the time frames and travel dates. So tomorrow will be 12 weeks since I mailed my application so I just got to keep my fingers crossed. So a little bit of good news at least, I still appreciate the info though Zephyr...

Guys if u are trying to contact the hotline , u don't have to listen to all the automated messages , u can just press 1 1 1 2, it cuts ur waiting time. Or if you are using a Pixel phone , u can use their "Hold for Me" feature , u don't have to press numbers at all and it cuts ur waiting time...

5/25 - Applied at USPS for a new passport with expedited service
6/01 - Marked as "in processing"
6/02 - Check cashed
We are travelling on 07/10. I've contacted our state senator, who said they will try to ensure our passport arrives on time but still no update. I've tried calling the national passport center several times but the call always hangs up once I hear the "on hold" beeping. Email has been unsuccessful as well. Wonder how concerned I should be the passport won't arrive on time?

I have the Exact same application timeline and also the same Travel Date. Contacted my State Senator and they have send an inquiry on 06/28. They mentioned that it is taking upto 7 days for the Passport agency to respond to the inquiry and in some cases people are getting their passports before they receive a response.
Let's hope I get it approved in a day or so

wow! if you receive it on 3 July that will be less than 6 weeks - that would seem to be some sort of recent record, second only to TravisMT81. From what city did you send your application and what service center is processing your application?
As a point of reference, it took almost that much time just for my applications to go from my post office to being "accepted."
