My wife submitted an expedited renewal on 1/17. At the time she submitted we didn't think we were traveling until March, but now we have a trip planned for Feb. 6.

It showed up the tracking system today 1/23. I called this morning and paid for the upgraded overnight delivery for and additional ~$15. They also took the information that she would be traveling on 2/6.

How responsive will the expedited team be to this new travel date?

My timeline expedited plus overnight shipping

02-11-2020 applied at Quality Auditors Office in person , paid $187.17 (expedited + overnight) money order
02-18-2020 Department of State receives my application ( processing with timeline message indicating 2-3 weeks)
02-24-2020 still processing unchanged, called and inquired, told it's in Irving texas being processed (final leg presumably but no bailout date) asked if i have travelling plans soon i say yes but date unknown as marked in the application but it'll be end of first quarter or start of second quarter of March. Told to call by Thursday to check. I hang up. 30 mins after I receive an email "approved " by Department of State. 30 mins after that another email that it's printed and shipped and delivery around the 02-27-2020. 1 hour later I receive another email with tracking number confirmed date of 02-26-2020 with specific time or Money Back Guaranteed.
Note the process doesn't start when you apply or mail but only from the time they receive it, as it takes up to 7days for them to receive it. So from receiving to delivery 9 days including a weekend. Otherwise 7 business days. Also I want to add , tho not required if you have an actual flight it always helps otherwise you'll still get it within 2 weeks which is still fast , in fact I probably would have gotten it by next monday which is still within the 2 weeks+ my overnight shipping. If you can spare change, add overnight and it's a breeze.

I think overnight shipping on the way out is really important... I used the USPS Priority Mail Express flat rate envelope... That seems to cut a week down based on the DPs in the thread

Out of curiosity, do these get mailed to a central printing location, or are they handled at a local level?

**Will update as status changes**
2/20/20 - First time passport (standard/routineservice) dropped off at a receiving site in Honolulu.
2/21/20 - Online status shows received as of that date. Est 6-8 weeks.
3/2/20 - Passport Shipped Email

If you submit your application at a post office (at the counter, not mailing it in), it should be handled by your local passport facility, unless they're backed up.
