Sep 3: mailed application for second passport
Sep 11: received letter saying they needed my original passport to process a second passport by mail Oct 7: mailed original passport with tracking, would have mailed it sooner but needed it for a trip Oct 16: passport arrived in Sterling, VA, interesting note that the tracking fell off on Oct 9, I called the NPC and they mentioned it was held in a security inspection Oct 17: approved, shipped that evening from Arkansas Oct 19: USPS shipping said it arrived, but it didn't Oct 21: second passport actually arrived Very surprised on the quick turnaround. Basically a week to tell me I needed to submit my original passport. Then once it cleared the security inspection, a single day for approval. |

Standard US passport application submitted at US Embassy in Europe on November 26th resulted in passport being issued on November 27th and “mailed” out to the Embassy. Expedite fees not relevant. The US passport which was submitted as part of the standard US passport application remains with the Embassy and remains valid as it will only be cancelled upon the Embassy’s receipt of the newly-issued passport.
My bet is that newly-issued passport is ready for pick-up by applicant at some point next week. I wouldn’t have been surprised if it would have been available for pick-up on Friday of this week, but the Thanksgiving closure does slow things down a bit. |

Apologies if this is the wrong thread, but it's the most active one re: US passports.
Both Mrs. Lee and I need to renew our passports and will be doing so via mail. I will need expedited service on mine but she will not. Can we still mail them both in together? IIRC the last time we renewed, I put each application/photo/expiring book/payment into a manila envelope and then put the two envelopes into a priority mail flat rate to save on postage. But back then we were both just doing standard processing so everything was going to the same place. For this time, could I pop them both in a single mailing to the Expedited address, and then trust that they'll separate off Mrs. Lee's standard application once it gets there? |
