So jeepzy, you can ignore section 107's comments as they are at least a decade out of date and are of little or no help to you.

oh darn - glad you and GU warned me as I was thinking I'd get the passport back in a day or two. I do not want to go thru the application process again that soon and unfortunately I would probably be there only 2 weeks tops.

Regarding the rest of your question, I have no idea where you are flying from to get to Australia, nor what you mean by connection. If you are solely connecting, i.e. not going land side you would not have any problems doing so from the rational connecting countries that I listed above (Singapore, Malaysia, UAE or Turkey) Others are silly......you going to connect through Russia right now? You really going to connect through China (although you could), Myanmar an option you looking at?

Flying from the East Coast/NY area. Only checked United but so far saw only 2 stopovers LAX or SFO so I wouldn't have any trouble at all if I don't have any INTL stopovers. Was thinking I may not be able to go with the cheapest flight if there was a stopover/connecting flight at (Singapore, Malaysia, UAE or Turkey). So even a connecting flight in China/Myanmar wouldn't kill my trip? I'm not planning to leave the airport or anything to see the country for a few hours - i just want to be able to make my connecting flight and make my way to SYD.

Following up my post #2338. New passport for infant, expedited processing, international travel commencing 4/25.

Submitted in-person at USPS 3/3
"Received" by State Department 3/7
Check cashed / In Process 3/8
Approved 4/3

Waiting on print and shipment. The date we can expect to receive the new passport has rolled forward and seems to do so each day that it sits in "approved" status.

Congrats on getting the approval.

I submitted apps for two minor kids at USPS 3/6 (expedited)
"Received" by State Department 3/13
Checks cashed on the same day - 3/13
The status has been "In Process" ever since
My locator # starts 62.
Since I submitted the app, the processing time on travel.state.gov changed from 5-7 weeks to 7-9 weeks.

You mentioned your locator is 69. I suppose different locators have different processing times? Is 62 bad?

I think that the processing time effective as of your submission is the one that is in effect for your application, though it seems that in many cases they're having trouble hitting those times regardless. Others can weigh in here.

I have absolutely no idea. All I know (from the wiki) is that 69 is Portsmouth, NH, while 62 is Tucson.

I had to renew my passport as it was expiring later this year. I just missed the online submittal option as it was shut down while I was on holiday in England. On return home, I sent the renewal application in.

3/16: Mailed passport renewal by first class mail, paid for expedited service
3/21: Check cashed (according to my bank)
4/7: Online status page showed as "Approved"
4/10: Passport entered US Mail with tracking number
4/12: Arrived (they sent it by Priority Mail)

Locator number: 42 (New Orleans)

I was very pleased with the turnaround time, particularly with the now stated 7-9 weeks processing for expedited service.

Just looking at different posted timelines, I find that the Tucson office is very slow. For example, compare the timeline in Post 2344 and yours, or compare your timeline with mine - (my applications are still in process). Not sure if other folks have the same impression.

When talking about the locator # being 69, 62, 42, etc, are you guys referring to the first 2 digits?

Yes, exactly right. And you'll see a key of locations in the Wiki at the top of the thread.

April 21st - application delivered in Philadelphia (one day late).
April 23rd - application appears as "in process" online. "
The U.S. Department of State has received your application for your passport book on 04/22/2021, etc."
April 28th - "in process" email received.
May 13th - "application approved" email received. The online status must also changed recently (it was still showing in process earlier this morning).
"You should receive your passport book on or around 05/16/2021." "Shipped" email received about two hours later.
Edit:
May 15th - passport received from Tucson in Priority Express mailing. It's the old model passport and the date of issue is May 12th.
May 22nd - received birth certificate back. The letter was postmarked on May 17th.

Finis.

New data points from me! So happy to be part of this little ballet again. This time there is no rush, hence:

March 17th - deposited two normal US passport applications at USPS for children. Renewals. One of them has a request for an endorsement - let's see if that delays it.
March 24th - first cheque cashed.
March 27th - second cheque cashed (electronically).
Both are showing as "in process" since March 24th, apparently being dealt with in Buffalo. No emails received despite requesting them.

I got my online renewal passport book today. applied on last day of online renewal on around FEB 4th, not expedited application.
I am surprised by the new look and feel of the new passport book. but I have questions. I applied for the LARGE passport and supposed to have 52 pages?
But mine is 50 pages including front and back of each page . The actual visa page starts from page 8 so actual page is 42 pages. In the last page, there is a divider, like a very thick paper. It looks like someone tored the last page and looks like altered to be honestly and i am worried about foreign immigration agents grilling me about this. In my old passport , I had extra pages added when they allowed this and it had a large tape and I was asked about why there is a tape at two foreign countries.

This is normal with "next generation" passports that have a hard plastic ID page. My Irish passport is the same.

That wasn't my question/concern

What you see is normal. Your new next-generation passport has the correct number of pages. It was constructed differently from how prior generation passports were constructed. There appears to be n:othing torn, improperly/unexpectedly taped, or wrong with it.

Submitted online (normal process) end of January.
Feb 1, 2023: Got email "Received"
April 19, 2023: Got email "In Process" (Dev tool status: Fulfillment)

I will probably get it end of the month, so total time is 3 months.
