The post office route works for me - got a form from the post office, got a picture from Duane Reade, wrote a check, and tossed everything into an express mail envelope. I'm feeling very lucky that everything went so smoothly.
But, yeah - that took way longer than it should have. David |

Well, online had the form built in, scanned in photo originally taken and printed by a photographer, used a credit card and no mail involved. And stayed in my PJs all through out that submittal process.

I just submitted my passport renewal online. Had someone take a photo for me on my cell phone, transferred photo to the computer via bluetooth. The entire process including application to payment was under 5 minutes.

Yes, submittal online is straightforward. Will look with keen interest as to how long it will take to get your passport since my process sequence took over 2 months.

When renewing passport in person under the urgent travel process (in-person appointment within 14 days of travel), when you bring a printed itinerary as proof of travel, are they calling the airline to confirm or otherwise doing some kind of confirmation?
At these urgent passport renewal appointments, are they typically printing the new passport right then and there, or do you typically have to wait another couple of days for it to be mailed or maybe even return to the facility to pick it up? |

The passport is typically available the same day; they ask you to return in a couple of hours.

Hi All,
Folks who have applied recently what has been your timeline in regards to the passport expedited? Which center is the fastest in getting the passport, i am ok to fly anywhere in the US. I have an upcoming travel coming up. I havent yet called and taken and appointment. Any pointers regarding the same? |
We came to Indonesia in May, and weren’t sure how long we would stay. We’re still here, so decided to renew both our passports, as my kids expired this month, and mine will expire in February.
They wouldn’t allow my electric wheelchair into the actual embassy in Jakarta, but a staff member came out to witness me signing my application, and both parents for our 10 year old. Since we didn’t have any date for travel, we didn’t list any date needed by. The passports were ready to pick up in one week! Also, our passport numbers are consecutive, which is kinda fun. |
FYI - I found that the agency locator numbers are n:pw listed on the State Dept. web site. They are on this page, under the heading, "List of passport agencies and centers with locator numbers." I've updated the Wiki with information about several agencies that were listed with no number and updated a few other entries.

Thanks, sounds like I should plan on finding something to do in the area, as a second round trip later in the day is too much travel.

After quite speedily receiving my new passport in just about three weeks after submitting my renewal application for normal service, it took an extra month for me to get my old, canceled passport returned to me. It arrived in the mail yesterday (Christmas Eve - I'm frankly surprised the post office even delivered yesterday!)

I think Christmas Eve is a normal delivery day, unless it falls on a Sunday. Same for New Years Eve.

Oh, I know it's supposed to be a normal mail delivery day. I was referring more to the fact that our post office often doesn't deliver at all - sometimes for several days in a row - if the weather is bad, or if the mail carrier is on vacation, or for who knows what reason. I fully expected no delivery at all yesterday and maybe only a couple of days, if that, this coming week.
