Plus in PHX, if you land at A1 and have to go to B it can be a 30 minute connect or longer getting off from a back row of a 75 or 321. It is is mission critical to be in SFO i would suggest taking the 535 to LAX and catching the connect to SFO on AA. I take this flight 2X a month and would bet that it is delayed vs on time. Check flightaware.com for more info. Worst case, have AA protect you on the 6am to SFO on united the following morning. I've had a lot of success in getting them to transfer me.
Odd. I've taken DCA-PHX quite a few times in the past and never had a problem nor were late.

DCA-PHX arrival delay - what gives?

summarizing the thread:
There is terrible weather in DC yesterday, causing ground stops, delays, and cancellation.
OP has a short connection tonight to the last flight of the day. OP has no flexibility with regard to departure times.
OP seeks crystal ball reading for today's flight.

Weather.com is reporting only negligible (less than 10 percent) chance of rain today. So, compared to yesterday, the chances of a ground stop are certainly less.

Interesting to see that US 583 is listed as a 757. You don't see too many of them at DCA these days (at least for US)....

The inbound is coming from PHX which, in turn, is coming out of OGG. All good weather airports.....

Good morning!

I hate to ask a favor of you, haha, but could you check on DCA-PHX, as well as the inbound for PHX-SFO, to see what the status is today? Both are still showing as on-time on the US website, but more detailed information would be nice.

If you can do that, I would definitely appreciate it.

Tomorrow is another day. The delay today does not mean there is a delay tomorrow. Hold of worrying until the flight tomorrow picks up a delay.

USairways.com shows the inbound PHX-DCA arriving on schedule. Flightaware shows it departing PHX about 30 minutes late, but making up ground and arriving close to scheduled arrival time.

Your PHX-SFO flight comes from CLT which comes from LAX. LAX flight is due to leave on time.

Also, the arrival time now shows as estimated 7:43pm vs. 6:53pm. The SFO flight would be at 8:10pm. Wouldn't that be a case of concern for anyone?
Your SFO flight is 8:15 pm. Under last nights scenario (assuming 436 left on time which it didn't), you would have had 32 minutes. Thats tight but doable at PHX given that both flights are mainline flights and both fly into and out of "A" concourse.

Even if you missed that one, you could check to see if the 8:15 to SJC was running late or not.

Very helpful, thanks! So far, it looks like I have 5A (I think in the mini-cabin in Y) for DCA-PHX, which should hopefully accelerate deboarding should timing be tight. Let's hope everything stays on time and they won't reassign my seat for some reason!

If DCA-PHX is a 757, it will board and de-plane from door 2A (around row 10). You'll need to push to get back to the door.

Yeah, that plane will be a V1 757 with 14 seats, so he will have to go backwards about 4 rows.

Oh, okay. Thanks for the warning! I'll keep that in mind.

LAX-CLT (#1742) currently is showing as awaiting takeoff, and an early estimated time, so let's hope the trend continues!

I feel like I've learned SO MUCH in this process. I've been flying for years, but this time keeping a close eye on operations and timing really is an eye-opener. Sometimes airlines remind me a bit of a domino - once one is delayed/cancelled, it impacts many others.

Another somewhat "rookie-sounding" question: should I be concerned if the flight status page shows "Awaiting Takeoff" for a long time? Does that signify potential delays?

I'd be more concerned on the estimated arrival time. Airlines tend to pad their schedules these days and what could be a 20 or 30 minute ground hold may mean the plane still arrives on time.
