DCA-PHX arrival delay - what gives?
I'm a bit concerned because I'm connecting DCA-PHX-SFO tomorrow night, and tonight's DCA-PHX is showing an arrival delay of about an hour, despite having left on time. What could have caused this delay? Doesn't make sense to me, because PHX is typically very stable and (almost) always on time
Thanks! |
Uhhhhhhhhh, just a little longer of a flight plan? 4 hr 21 min last night and 4 hr 33 mins tonight. In addition it took off 15 mins later than last night?

Thanks! you are worried about a flight tonight that has a 1 hour delay for a flight tomorrow LOL? and you must be near DCA but that major T-Storm was something that you never gave a thought too LOL |
As this seems to be US operations, I'll move to the appropriate forum.
As noted, was there any weather between DCA and PHX? And PHX isn't immune to weather delays, monsoon storms can definitely roll in at this time of year. Thanks. aztimm |
I'm worried because my connection in PHX tomorrow night will only be an hour, so if my flight is delayed an hour, I'll miss the last connection of the day to SFO.
Also, the arrival time now shows as estimated 7:43pm vs. 6:53pm. The SFO flight would be at 8:10pm. Wouldn't that be a case of concern for anyone? |

Along with other DCA-PHX-SFO options you might want to check for flights through PHL or CLT. |

The flight number is 583 (US Airways operated).

If it is critical that you be at SFO by the end of the day tomorrow, I'd recommend checking for alternatives. If you have AA status, you can do a, "move up," to an earlier flight for free (otherwise I think it is $75). MoveUp can only be done at the airport, however.

US 583 DCA-PHX on 8/20 departed the gate ontime and seems like it hit the penalty box and roamed the taxiways for 45 minutes before taking off. The flight is showing a 42 m arrival delay.

It shows as departed at an actual time of 5:14pm vs. the scheduled 5:15pm so how can it be departed late?
. If you go to flightaware you'd see the flight took off at 5:59. You'd also see that DCA has been "experiencing departure delays of 31 minutes to 45 minutes averaging 2 hours (and increasing) due to thunderstorms." - Source: flightaware.com Chill out. What's happening with the flight today has no bearing on what will take place tomorrow. |
Thanks for sharing! Do you think that if this were to happen tomorrow, I'd still be able to make my connection to SFO?

But look US436 PHX-SFO is delayed 2+ hours tonight, so you would have ad plenty of time to make the connection.

DCA-PHX arrival delay - what gives?
Weather is supposed to be better tomorrow. DCA had a ground stop earlier which probably caused the delay.
Safe travels. |
Pretty good line of storms to the west of the DC area today - likely caused departure delays for west bound flights.

Flight 583 is always late. It is a large plane to board from DCA. Generally gets caught in weather, flow control going west and taxis around the airport like a lost drunk looking for a bathroom. There used to be a 1020 to SFO after the 815 flight, but it looks as if it has gone away. Plus in PHX, if you land at A1 and have to go to B it can be a 30 minute connect or longer getting off from a back row of a 75 or 321. It is is mission critical to be in SFO i would suggest taking the 535 to LAX and catching the connect to SFO on AA. I take this flight 2X a month and would bet that it is delayed vs on time. Check flightaware.com for more info. Worst case, have AA protect you on the 6am to SFO on united the following morning. I've had a lot of success in getting them to transfer me.
