Hello all
I know I will be ridiculed for this opinion but here it is...
I feel all these A< B then B>A or longer chain swaps are really totally against the spirit of the promotion.
In my opinion the intent was to allow DM users to give miles at a discounted rate. For example, I want to send my brother and his wife on a trip. I could do this for 50000 miles. Now, through this promo, I can gift him 25000 miles, which turns into 50000 and I get to gift him the same trip but for 1/2 the miles. I don't think the intent was to allow everyone essentially 50% miles.
If US wanted to offer 50% off miles for DM members, than they would just do that with out making you gift back and forth.
Feel free to lambaste away.

Doesn't say.

Dividend Miles number XXXXXXXXXXXX

Your share transaction has been declined.
It wasn't anything to do with credit card limit that is for sure.

A>B, B>C, C>A within the family.
Had 2 100K tickets I have to ticket soon anyway and the rest can turn to AA miles in due time. :)
Thank god for AA miles, redeeming for CX F, HKG based and all :)

Sorry if this has been answered before (on holiday first thing in the morning and no time to research) but if someone signs up for US DM today 3 October, when will they be able to receive shared miles?

Quick question about mile sharing...

I need to get all my miles into one account and there are 3 parties.

A has 150k miles
B has 25k miles
C has 7.5k miles

Right now that's a total of 182.5 miles and I'd like to get to 300k. The issue I'm seeing is that there are so many steps and so much gifting required that it's going to cost an arm and a leg. The figure I have right now is as follows...

Step 1. A > B 50k miles. Costs about $500 and B now has 125k (25 + 50 + 50).

Step 2. B > C 50k miles. Costs about $500 and C now has 107.5k (7.5 + 50 + 50)

Step 3. B > A the remaining miles (75k). Costs about $750

Step 4. C > A the remaining miles (107.5k) Costs about $1070.

That's a grand total of $2820 and a shitload of money. Are my calculations right here or am I missing a loophole?

I'll dearly miss US Airways.. where else can I get my first class tickets from C2 to C3, hitting 5 different airlines on the way, for less than 1200$? ^

You are missing a huge part of the T&C. You can only receive a bonus of 50000 miles.

I factored that in there. The highest number gifted in that scenario is 50k to receive 50k (apart from the end results of giving the miles back in which I calculated no bonus). Or am I missing something?

$2,820 + 7.5% tax + 4 x $30 fees. You'd end up with 332,500 miles by my reckoning.

Never mind, I agree with your calculations. You are adding a 50K bonus for one of the steps, 3 and 4, which I think is correct.

So I think what it comes down to is do I want to pay $400 ish for business class or $2000 ish for F class?

Since A could give 40k miles to B. A would then have 110k (good for RT to Africa Business class)

B would then have 105k (25 + 40 + 40)

C would then gift 2.5k to B and B ends up with 110k as well.

Assuming my logic is correct - it now becomes a matter of is it worth another $2k to fly F class for my honeymoon

You can feel all you want, but you seem to have been living on a very remote island these last years. US is simply looking at selling as much miles as they can get us to buy at different price points. And have been running almost all variations of different promotions, from buying/gifting with different bonus percentages to sharing.

So they know exactly what they are doing and how people are using these promotions. So please don't assume to have superior knowledge about what the people behind these offers are "really" trying to offer.....

Or the question could be ... is it worth $2K to have an incredible, once in a lifetime, unforgettable beginning to your marriage? :D

I agree, but I don't know when the next buy promo will happen and may want to get the miles at short notice. So my question isn't really whether it's the best value, but whether it works (ie. US allows it).

Haha yes - it certainly would.

However when you add $3k to a house on a down payment, a new car which will be needed in the next 3 months and a wedding...it becomes a hard pill to swallow.

Either way, we'll be going at least business class international which I can't complain about. I'd like to do a comparison of different business class options in another thread with US/envoy vs partner airlines.
