When I'm working, the temperature is set where the majority rules. If a lot of people are complaining about extreme hot or cold then we will adjust it accordingly. If just one person complains we usually discreetly ask people in surrounding seats if they're uncomfortable and if they aren't then we don't change the cabin temperature. I've actually loaned my sweater out to that one person that just can't seem to get warm. :)
Most f/a's tend to be warm as we're up and walking around more. We take that into account and don't cool the cabin off just for our benefit. If it's turbulent we tend to keep the cabin a little bit cooler since it helps ward off air sickness, nothing worse than being nauseous in a hot airplane...not a good combination.
But trust me, we aren't heating or cooling the cabins to intentionally torture the passengers. We want you to be comfortable!

Was checking out an FTers past posts and saw this thread.

To be technical, no airlines heat their cabins. The air is channeled out from the compressed air going into the engine intakes, which compression (way before the combustion stage) heats the air way higher than "comfortable" That is why no aircraft can carry pax with it's air conditioners not working, as the too hot compressed air has to be cooled down. If the air is still too warm, it's either the setting it's on, or the air conditioners are losing efficiency (in the latter case the plane will need to be taken out of service in the near future to remedy that).
