It's impossible to reply without knowing the details, but cancelling your reservation and giving you benefits at the airport are two different issues.

Free bags?

I recently got this card, and thought that you get 1 free bag, or something along those lines. Does anyone know about this? If so, what are the restrictions?

**this probably was not the best place to put this, but I didnt want to start a whole new thread either... Feel free to move.

Unless there is a new promotion out, this card has never given 1 free bag (I know United and Delta's do). Where did you sign up for the card? Do you still have that website link or advertisement showing 1 free bag as part of the card?

Thanks. No I dont, and I signed up for several cards at once, so I might be getting them mixed up. I was thinking if you signed up for the card, you automatically made chairman gold or silver or something.

The card definitely does not give you status. No card gives you a free checked bag as far as I know either. The only way to get a free checked bag is to be at least a silver.

Since a perk is First Class Check-in, and "Confirmed First Class" pax get free checked bags, there's some potential confusion. Since domestic pax generally only go to the check-in counter to check a bag, it's a perk that just takes your money faster.

I don't know about the boarding benefits, but they won't ask for extra miles after you receive your ticket.

If the charge just posted recently on your account and you haven't paid it, just call and cancel. (You might want to read carefully the post a few up regarding retention offer after annual fee had posted.)

If you already paid the annual fee, which suggests that this is more than 30 days ago, I really doubt Barclays is anything like American Express, which is to say that I doubt any pro rata credit or refund.

Thank you, I have paid the annual fee a month ago, so I guess even I call to cancell, they will not waive or prorate the fee to be refunded like AMEX.

Have not received any of their promotion the entire second half year. I should stop using the card while I put average 5-6K a month

As a data point-

My annual fee posted a week ago. I called in previously to cancel the card, and was offered an extra 1000 US Airways points for $1000 in spend which I accepted. My annual spend is approximately $5000 on the card.

The only offer that the retention specialist offered was to downgrade the card to a no annual fee card which gets 1 mile/$2 spent.

10,000 miles posted a couple of days ago. AF will post tomorrow, called retention. They offered only 2500 miles for $500 spend. I asked if she could offer a reduction or elimination of the annual fee, but she said this was all she had. I wavered, said I had another card, as well. (One that had been downgraded years ago but has 7 years of history/longevity.) She said she could offer me the 2500 miles on that one, too, with $500 spend.) I am hopeful that there might be something in the offing later, but the 10,000 annual bonus plus this 5,000 miles made me agree to keep the card. Not at all a slam dunk, but....maybe I'll feel like a chump, right?

I successfully applied for two of these cards in 2013. Annual fee on the first one coming due at $89. I think I applied for the one that doesn't give 10k miles at anniversary so see no reason to keep two of these cards. Are there any?

Well, if you were thinking of flying twice to, say, the West Coast with two other people and you wanted to go at a time when fares were, say, >$500, then having those $99 companion certificates would be worth real money. And/or if you wanted to qualify for US status by running a lot of cash through both cards, to get a second 10,000 PQMs. Otherwise, there really aren't any.

Well, closed the account today (4 days annual fee payment was due). Was offered exactly zilch to stick around, not even a downgrade. Guess I'll take the 10k miles that posted and run.

Describing the award flight as xxx-xxx is not giving the details.
