Update 08APR2014: Star Alliance Awards must have been booked by March 30, 2014. They are no longer available through US. This thread is mostly useful for historic purposes, and discussing issues such as schedule changes/route changes that affect FTers existing *A awards booked before 3/31/2014.

Discussion on using US miles to book oneworld awards is available here.

If you are looking for discussion on US's new partner awards that use various partners not in oneworld (many of whom are former *A partners), see the devoted thread on using US miles to book NON-oneworld partners here.

------------------------

Update 07JAN14: American Airlines award tickets bookable online on usairways.com or through reservation.

  • Award travel must be wholly on American Airlines or a combination of American Airlines and US Airways.
  • American Airlines awards cannot be combined with any of our current partner.
  • American Airlines award travel chart (PDF)

Please see the devoted thread on using US miles to book AA here.

Found just over 2 weeks out - 3/21 outbound SFO-ICN in C. Not available all the way to SIN anymore. The SIN-NRT-LAX on SQ16 I found the following week is only in Y now too.

The Wandering Aramean booked a different SQ journey on UA.bomb2.0 with no problem. Someone else commented on the blog about booking LAX-SIN-NRT in C on SQ's A388 with no trouble, though again that's using UA.

I booked a zrh-bkk-syd-bkk-zrh award in F.
I already completed the outbound in Oct 11, the return portion is during easter.

I just discovered that I have been downgraded to J for the syd-bkk sector due to an equipment swap from 340 to 747. Ana still shows F availability for that segment.

What are my chances getting US to reinstate me to F for that sector, given that my ticket is partially used.

You shouldn't have been downgraded in the first place as the 747 has F. Contact US ASAP and get them to reinstate it before the space disappears.

was just trying to book an itinerary involving a United flight MUC-IAD, their system wouldn't let them sell it. She wasn't sure if United was still having problems or if the seat was in fact not available.

KVS shows it as available.

I vs. O inventory on UAL

I don't quite understand what comes up on ExpertFlyer now that the UAL change has taken place. I'm looking at SFO-SYD. I inventory is now described as "First/Business - Saver Award and Alliance Upgrades". Is it First or Business or First and Business? I have 3 business seats reserved already but I paid at a first points level for one of my seats. Trying to understand what I have to find to upgrade that one seat.

One seat should be available...
But good possible, that there are still issues from the UA system merger...
HUACA until you get this seat

HUACA? I'd actually prefer that J seat but it doesn't seem to be available for *A.

I'm trying to piece together a trip from US to IST in mid September in C. I'm finding availability on odd days (that just aren't working for me) mostly on OS some scattered LH and SK. Why am I not seeing any TK, even in Y?

Maybe because other people have been faster with booking than you?

If you are looking at I Availability, then that would be Business. If you are looking for First, then you would need O: http://Help.KVSTool.com/#Classes

Huh?? You sure you don't have that reversed. F is available but not C?

Happens all the time on UA- people won't buy F, so it's more available for upgrades/awards.

I am not doubting that F is available, just what KVS said, that C was available not F, which contradicts the data from his own tool.

Yes, of course it was a typo -- the OP has now been corrected.
