Question Miles Burn PNR merging with change of adult to minor

I know I might get flamed for using 20k miles for a domestic roundtrip, but here goes:
We are flying CLT-SFO (how all of the CAE-CLT 20k seats vanish since 3 days ago is beyond me)

I am trying to avoid fees, where possible.

The dates are 3rd week September.

My wife has enough miles to get a ticket. I have enough miles to give my 3 yo a ticket.

My work is paying for my $340 tix.

I have two separate PNRs on hold for them.

When I go to buy mine on this Friday and ticket theirs, what is the best strategy to minimize fees, but yet link all of the PNRs together for the outbound (I come back a few days later)?

I had to say the 3yo was an adult when I booked, since I couldn't change the adults to zero. Any potential issues with that?

None of us have status on US.

Thanks for your help!
