Fare class question

Fare class question
All,
Trying to book Europe trip - outbound is on 29 Sep on LH codeshare (want V class so I can use a SWU, but only can get W on .bomb) and inbound is on 12 Oct in V class (lowest class for the time I want).
When I call the 1K desk, all they find is H on the return (thus too expensive).
Can I ticket the above itinerary online and then call the 1K desk to change the fare class for the LH codeshare (and pay the difference)? I've gotten conflicting reports from customer service. Most of them said I have to cancel and reticket, but then of course this won't help because they can't see V class availability on the return.

If they can't see the fare class when you call to book the itinerary they're not going to be able to see it when you call back to change it... and it would require a change fee plus the fare difference. What are the cities you are trying to book?

V class is not available on the flights you want. It is available individually on UA949 and UA 538, but when those segments are "married", H is the lowest class available at this time:
F3 C9 D9 Y9 B9 M5 H5 Q0 V0 W0 S0 T0 K0 L0 G0 P2 A3 Z9 E0 U0
Instead you could catch the earlier LHR-ORD UA923 and connect to UA536. V would be available then (and even W which is fine since these are UA flights and your SWU would work for your upgrade).

That could be it - when i price it on .bomb, i have to do it as LHR-ORD and ORD-BOS. When I look for LHR-BOS, that option doesn't even come up.
