current experiences with VDB

Any current VDB experiences?

Are vouchers still being given out for the asking or does it differ by agent? Does the "free" ticket earn miles? Thanks.

I had no problem getting the old style travel credits in DFW on 12/26.

From what other people have said, it seems to depend on the station whether you can get travel credits or the free ticket.

However, on 12/26 I was readin my Departure Management card and it said something along the line that compensation would be in the form of travel credits or *in select markets* a free ticket. The wording on the DM card made it seem that travel credits were available everywhere, and the free ticket was optional in some areas. So maybe you could use the DM card to push getting the credits.

I assume that if the gate agent forces you to take the free ticket (as reported recently at ORD), you can contact UA reservations and get them to exchange for travel vouchers.

As another FTer has done on another thread, I'll call this assertion: I think United is entitled to stand firm in this case. If you don't want the free ticket, you're free not to accept the offer of compensation for voluntary denied boarding that day, and go ahead and get on that flight. You have the right to challenge the gate personnel (politely) and call attention to the departure management card and other documentation which seems to indicate that vouchers should still be available, but when you actually accept the free ticket, to me, that's an oral contract you've made -- tit for tat.
