Upgrade Question.

My partner (premier) is flying on B, therefore 72 hour window. He has a companion (no status) in M, upgrade for her in 72 or 24 hour window?

Thanks in advance.

I assume the companion is traveling on a different reservation (PNR) from the Premier, since they each have different fare codes. As such, she is not recognized as a "companion" by UA. Although their PNRs could be linked by UA, I don't believe it will do any good as far as upgrade priority for the companion.

I'd call Res AND MP and get a credible answer. I'm certain that if a flying companion is on the same reservation, then the companion gets the perks and benefits just as the 1K. The only time my traveling partners have not been upgraded with me is when I list more than one.

Whether or not a single reservation record can contain multiple fare codes is the question here that only a supervisor will likely know.

Different fare codes cannot be combined in a single PNR so therefore these must be 2 different records. That means that each will follow their own individual status, 72 hours for the B fare and 24 hours for the M fare. It might be worth trying to get a sympathetic Service Director (supervisor) in Reservations to allow both to upgrade at 72 hours but don't be upset/surprised if they follow the rules...

Though you can't "combine" two PNRs, I have in the past had companions join me who were on their own PNRs. The trick is to call and have the non-status PNR cross-reference the status PNR. Then both upgrades will clear according to the status member.
