would like to seek your help on this.

we would like to get from Eugene to New Orleans (MSY) on 11th June as soon as possible and with a reasonable price.

we would only be able to leave Eugene 12 Noon that day,

the search has generated a flight that leaves eugene at 2:20pm, perfect. the price tag, 253.

if we drive up the portland, there is a flights that leaves at 2.40 for 200 dollar, but we are just not sure if 2:40 is enough for the drive and the check in.

but there if a flight that leaves portland for eugene and connects the same 2:20 flights that leaves eugene, for 200.

so i would like to do the buy the PDX-EUG-DEN-MSY ticket but only fly on EUG-DEN-MSY, saving the 50 bucks (there is a few of us and yes, we are poor students).

my questions is, i know it;s technically just few hours (less than 2 to be exact) and i read from previous post throw away hidden legs that's less than 24 hours away will not affect your next leg, i just would like to confirm this.

and could anyone could advise me on how the UA staff in Eug Check-in would see this? can we just tell them we missed our earlier flight and just drove down instead?

and yes, we do have buggages to check in, and i am *A silver and i doubt that helps.

if you have any other suggestions on the trip would be great, i am willing to drive up to SEA :-)

Once you miss your first flight, the rest of the itinerary will be canceled. You may be able to sweet talk an agent into letting you on the flight using the excuse you gave, but if you fail, you're out $200 and no trip. Why take the chance? I realize $50 is a lot, but is it really worth that kind of risk?

The driving time from EUG to PDX would probably be a couple of hours, plus gas and wear and tear on your vehicle. Add in parking and you've probably spent the $50 you're trying to save. Then, there would be the return drive back from PDX to EUG's costs as well.

Is all this self-imposed trauma worth the $50? I vote starting at EUG.

Once you miss the first leg, the rest of your itinerary will be cancelled. Your situation is precisely the reason why UA cancels your itinerary going forward once you miss a leg. UA does not want you taking advanatage of a fare from your market (EUG) that isn't intended for your market. Could be a number of reasons why they the tix are cheaper from PDX. Unfortunately, that's the way the industry works.

UA *WILL* cancel your entire itinerary if you miss the first leg. If you go to EUG, they will charge you the last minute fare, and you will get zero credit for your original ticket. Not worth it for $50.

Besides everything else that's been mentioned, if you missed a PDX-EUG flight there's no way you could drive to EUG in time for the same connecting flight (the drive is about 2 hours, plus any heavier-than-normal traffic time on I-405). Even if you tried to claim this, and UA was willing to bend a rule, the agent would know you were making it up.

Of course, this is the same staff that put my son's EUG-PDX-ORD suitcase on an Allegiant Air flight to LAS...

Your ticket would be canceled. Don't try it.

for the 217 fare, i would love to do it, but i can't as the school exam finish at 12noon, guess we would do the 250 fare then.

i absolutely agree, don't do it.

but, i don't agree w/the arguments. everyone is saying if you miss your first leg, your itinerary will be canceled. i don't believe that's true. for instance, when you miss that first leg, you can go same day standby *after* your scheduled flight and you will be fine. so they can't cancel your ticket until i think midnight (not sure what time zone) of the day of the first flight you missed.

now maybe they won't let you on the eugene flight still because they'll see that you didn't take the first leg. but you won't lose your ticket. i suppose if eugene wouldn't let you on, you could drive to pdx and start there doing a same day later flight standby???

i still say don't do it, but i want to understand the rules a little better here, cuz it feels like something is missing.

not sure what the schedule is, but if that's the last EUG-DEN flight of the day, you can't go standby.

they won't cancel your ticket that day, but i doubt they'd let you on the plane at EUG. just a bad idea. spend extra $50.
