Question "Priority Reservations Waitlist"

I can't find a thread that explains this well.

"Priority reservations waitlist when the flight or eligible fare you want on any Star Alliance member airline is sold out."

If I want a T fare that's been sporadically available, can I just waitlist for it? Or do I need an existing reservation... and therefore a $150 refare?

Can someone either post a link or clarify for me? Thx.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8900/4.6.1.199 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

I can't think of a way that you could waitlist for an unavailable fare. You could in a sense guarantee yourself a seat in the past by buying a ticket and hoping for the fare to drop and refaring. Now there is the $150 fee.
Pretty sure the quote you posted refers to people who want to standby for an earlier/later flight and are already holding a ticket.
Your post is a little cryptic

I understand priority waitlist when a flight is sold out. Highest status gets the first seat open, I guess.

But paraphrasing "Priority waitlist when the ... eligible fare you want ... is sold out."

Does T0 then mean that I can waitlist for T1? I have no idea how that does/would work.

Wait-lists can be closed for any booking class, but are programatically closed when a certain criteria have been met (i.e. a certain number on wait-list, 100% of the time, or many other variables.)

Closed means closed...no more wait-lists will be accepted either a PA or a PB (priority or non-priority.)

This is not to say that inventory may not be reallocated if demand falls off, just that UA does not want to wait-list any more people and would rather see the person buy the next higher fare, or shop elsewhere. The incremental revenue to them at the low booking class is not worth the risk of buy down, or displacing higher revenue customers.

Check alternate routings, or check closer to dptr (provided you still meet the advanced purchase rules,) or buy a higher inventoried fare.

I just wanted to understand this "elite perk" better. I used multi-city to get the fare I want anyway.
