Transpac,
I flew ORD-HKG in November and again in March...No first Suites.
I have a good friend who "works" that flight who mentioned a target month for the upgrade, but I can't remember
. I'll email him and see if he's heard any updates.

Don't get too discouraged yet. UA won't even know until the evening before departure whether it will be a First suite equipped 744 or not. And even then they can have an equipment change the day of the flight.
UA is only selling a maximum of 14 first seats on all 744 flights (probably doesn't apply to the OP config, but with 18 seats, you're not on one of those anyway) so there are no problems if a First Suite equipped aircraft is substituted.
Call UA the night before. The agent will not know if it is a First Suite aircraft or not. Here's the key: ask if there are 4 rows or 5 in first. If the answer is 4, you're out of luck. If it's 5, it's First Suites.
Good luck.

Here's a quesiton. WHAT seat rows do they call those 4 seats in the center?
Could be 3 and 4 or 4 and 5 looking at the seat diagram!

Follow-up:
As it turns out I did have a F.S. on my return (UA 896 HKG-ORD) {but didn't have it on the outbound}. (On the non-FS 744's AVOID seats 4 A/B as the crew jumpseat is right behind these and the pounding/jarring is relentless.) There was one empty seat; three UA employees/retirees and it looked like most people upgraded; but 4 or so didn't. I was in 4J and was very, very impressed with the set-up. I am 6' 5" and was able to sleep very comfortably (the drop-down arm-rest on the aisle-side is very nice as it makes it easy to get in/out of "bed". Even though it was 31 Aug we had all of the new (for Sep) movies and tapes. Lap-top power was functional also. One FA mentioned that this was the third time this month that she had seen the F.S. on this run. This was my first FS experience and I am now spoiled. Like my flights on SQ (in business albeit) this was one of those flights that could have gone on for another 14 1/2 hours and I wouldn't have minded a bit. (btw, after all the bonuses; 1K/Olympic/TrueFlier/C this trip will have netted me 73,559 miles)
