UA crew wins hospitality award
From The Sunday Times (S'pore)
When it comes to service with a smile, the Singapore Girl holds no monopoly.
A group of 285 United Airlines flight attendants have won top honours .... for going out of their way to be hospitable.
... Collectively, they have introduced services that have given the airline's daily flights out of Changi Airport a local touch, said UA's supervisor for onboard services, Ms Elaine Yip.
For example, economy-class passengers have a choice of Hainanese Chicken Rice or chai tow kway for breakfast, while first-class and business-class travellers can enjoy a meal of braised chicken noodles, she said.
.... Last night, the group received the Five Star Diamond Award from the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences, which is based in New York City. It picks out travel players it sees deserving of the award.
The title is significant as Asian carriers, notably SIA, are well-known for better in-flight service. UA is the first American airline to bag this prize.
... Its general manager for Singapore, Mr Bill Byrne, said the award confirms the findings of the surveys that UA carries out 20 times a month.
"The Singapore group has consistently scored the highest marks in our global customer ratings surveys," he said. .....

Interesting article. Since the flight crew for Singapore on UA is based out of Bangkok, maybe its owed more to Thai hospitality than anything else.

The flight crew are based out of Singpaore and used to serve 2 flights a day. One to Hong Kong and one to Tokyo. They moved the Hong Kong flight to serve Hong Kong to Bangkok. You now see both Singapore and Bangkok based FA's on the flights to both Singapore and Bangkok. Having flown to both locations many times I agree that the service in Singapore and Bangkok are among the best both on the ground and in the air. By the way you also see the Singapore crew on flights to Beijing and Shanghai providing very good service in the air.

I have had the pleasure of having the SIN based flight attendants on countless flights between PEK and NRT. They are among the best in the business, and it's great to hear that they have been so honored.
