Possible to refare a codeshare?

As many people have mentioned in the past weeks, it is currently cheaper to purchase codeshare tickets through bmi on United metal rather than buying via .bomb. However, assuming I buy a flight on bmi, all of which operates on United metal, and the price drops, can I refare through United, or only through bmi (assuming they have a refare option...I haven't checked closely enough)?

Also, other then losing the mileage bonus on my flight, is there any reason not to buy through the bmi website? Will I be able to call United and still get economy plus seats? Will my dad be able to toss me an SWU if he feels like it?

I just want to make sure all my bases are covered before I pull the trigger on the fare...

Pretty sure you cannot refare through United.

Btw, what do you mean losing mileage bonus? As far as I know, I still get my elite bonus when flying BMI codeshare operated by United. I've done US flight to NRT (UA Metal) and still get the bonus. The only down side is you can only apply upgrade on the day of travel.

You ticket payment is to BD. UA receives nothing until after you board your flight. There is no way for UA to refare, or even make any changes prior to travel. BD is the only one who has control. I am not 100% sure about BD, but refaring is unique to US based airlines, I don't think any of the foreign airlines does it.

You still receive bonus as it is operated by UA.

That should not be a problem.

Your dad will need to go to the airport with you to gift you the SWU for codeshare. There is no way to do that in advance nor on the website.

Refare if you are on UA flight numbers but other airline metal?

I'm in a bit of the opposite position - I have a mixed metal ticket all on UA flight numbers. Is it possible to refare this ticket? (mixed metal is UA and LH)

My rule of thumb on this (and I'm speaking out of the top of the hat I don't wear) is that is more than one carrier involved, either in ticketing or operating, forget about refaring.
