Becoming less of a rumor and more of a constant noise. I hear this almost daily from CSR's and others. TED going away and/or changing to F class. Either way it is better. Going away of course is preferred. :D

I thought this information was too good to be hidden within another thread and deserved it's own thread and title. I found an earlier thread discussing F Cabins on Theodore and added the updated information to it. Happy Reading!

Thanks, Liz, for sharing! ^

Will the RAR be reduced to a whimper? :D If this comes to pass I'm sure there will be celebrations in Tampa among other places. :)

Oh dear, but if it's all just rumor, I will want this topic to disappear! I hope it's not idle chatter, but signs are pointing to something.

I really highly doubt it's happening (I trust you hear it Liz, but I highly doubt that there's any substance to the rumor), although I would LOVE to be proven wrong.

As I mentioned a couple of posts ago, I think given the number of complaints around here about diminished/poor F service even with a dedicated F FA, having to share that FA with Y would probably lead to some of the loudest complaints we've ever heard.

If there's an F section, F pax (be they revenue or upgraders, but revenue especially) will expect F service, and they won't get it if the F FA is spending significant time assisting the Y FAs. At least with no F, you know what to expect: no F. With F but without a dedicated FA, you will expect good service and not get it.

To expect a "dedicated" FA for a 4 seat F cabin is ridiculous.

In current UA 319/737/320 service, the "front" FA almost always assists the "back" FA's with various duties. And, in many (most?) cases, the service in F is good.

Even when delivered by the book and then some, how much "service" is there to give on UA domestic F?

If, as rumored, TED morphs back to mainline A320's with 12 seats in F, there will still be time for the front FA to take care of F and still help the back FA's with the first few rows or alcohol orders.

Does this lack of a "dedicated" FA mean UA F is a colossal failure?
Sounds like a thread of it's own.........

I'll bet it is... UA stopped differentiating Ted from mainline quite awhile ago..and certainly don't appear to be marketing Ted any longer separately (other than the "operated by Ted" tagline on your itinerary which is programmed in). Killing him off would be no surprise to me.. just like they killed the Sh*ttle. I just hope that with the A320's they'll put the ovens back in too so there can be true F service as opposed to what they did with the ex-Sh*ttle 737's.

There is still an oven (or two in some cases) in the back of the TED 320's.

Very interesting. Several months ago a matron in the DEN RCC told me she had heard TED was going away because "too many 1K's were complaining and they listen to you, not us." I never posted this for fear of being flamed for posting rumors (and I had enough doubt in my own mind not to substantiate the rumor).

Recently (2 weeks ago) I was on a flight from ORD to LHR and I was seated next to a senior lever UA executive. We spoke off and on throughout the flight and at one point I asked her about the rumor. She laughed and said she highly doubted it because TED was a very effective tool at combating WN and F9. She went on to say United doesn't have the perception of being an inexpensive carrier so they needed a new name they could develope into a low cost brand. She said TED is here to stay although I suppose they could keep TED and add a small F cabin.

I'm just reporting on what I've heard although I certainly hope the rumors are true.

I suspect the real reason this idea is floating around is fleet utilization.

Maintaining a subfleet with a different configuration means that the United fleet as a whole can't be optimized to its full potential due to the lack of F on Ted. If Ted went away, there would likely be numerous tangential benefits related to fleet utilization and I'm sure a few new routes/flights would come of it.

I will bet a nickel that customer requests and comfort have 0.00% to do with it.

Speaking from my PHX perspective as well as a F/A/Y/B fare traveller(95% of the time) I would love to see mainline on the ORD-PHX route, however for SFO and DEN I am completely content with TED. The flights aren't longer than 2 hours and the extra capacity really helps. There are many times I see Y2 or Y1 and end up selling out a flight. I'd much rather not have to use my guaranteed seat benefit every week...

Earlier this month I flew PVR-ORD in F on mainline. I was chatting with the purser about how nice it was not to have to fly TED out of PVR. She agreed and said that she had been hearing rumors that it was going away.

I blew it off as an unfounded FA rumor, but who knows.....

iluv2fly Oct 16, 2007 4:11 pm

Ain't gonna happen. As much as I wish it would...ain't gonna happen. :( :td:

warreng24 Oct 16, 2007 4:39 pm

All the talk of TED going away makes the assumption that F will return to the TED planes.

But, TED can go away and take with it all the F seats from the other mainline planes too... :D
