How to book code-share flight?

When I travel within China, I always see Air China (CA) flights with with UA flight numbers (they are code share partners). However, there is no way for me to book any of these flights under UA. Saw it once on American Express travel book system my company uses, but no luck to book either. Any suggestion? Thanks.

Since it is hard to troubleshoot the problem without knowing more details (flight number and date i.e.), I would call UA and just try to book it over the phone. If they can't book it, they can probably tell you more.

It may also be that you are trying to book a flight to far in advance. While schedules are already available it may be for several reasons that UA does not want to accept bookings if it wants to work out further details (revenue sharing and what not) with the airline they are codesharing.

i think you need to book those domestic flights in conjunction with ua flights in order to use the ua codes.

however, i have been offered various international itins by ua that were 100% on ca metal (pek-sfo/lax/nyc come to mind)

This is likely. UA is not authorized to offer strictly intra-China travel (the same goes for Australia and probably other countries as well).

There are many codeshare flights that are only available if you are connecting from another UA flights. Like what others mentioned above, unless you are flying to PVG on UA, you can't take PVG-CTU using UA codeshare.
