Open Jaw Award Tickets?

Hey all,

Is it possible to book a domestic saver award that is open jaw? (I know this is for sure not possible on UA.bomb). And if so, would it use the same number of miles as a regular round trip domestic saver award?

Thanks in advance,
boeingair

Yes and yes. You're allowed an open jaw or a stopover.

No stopovers on awards within a geographic region (US and Canada in this case). Open jaws are allowed. Traveling between regions, you can have either a stopover or open jaw.

No he means that you can't have a stopover if your entire trip is within one region. ORD-NRT-PVG-ORD is allowed because the U.S., Japan, and China don't fall in the same region.

Sorry I didn't make it clear..

Could we have Chicago-Tokyo (stopover) on the way to Shanghai (final destination)?

NW allows a stopover in Japan on the way to China.

That should be allowed.
I just booked SIN-HKG-BKK and that was fine.

A couple of times we've been granted 12 hour stopovers in California on standard HI awards. Don't know if that's officially allowed, but it was appreciated!

One stopover en route to your final destination or one open jaw is permitted for a flight award on United between the continental U.S. and Hawaii or between the U.S. and the Caribbean, Asia, Australia, Central and South America or Europe. No stopovers are permitted within a geographic region.

As those are different geographic regions, the answer would be YES.

Correct. The open jaw (SAN-MIA) is longer than the shortest leg flown (MIA-IAD).
