24 hour cancellation window after hold?

Does the 24 hour cancellation rule still applies if the ticket was held up to the very last minute?

My understanding is the 24 hour clock starts ticking once you purchase the ticket, regardless of the hold period.

And it's important to note that it is in fact a 24-hour cancellation window, not a "til midnight tomorrow" one.

I can verify this...

I put a domestic reservation on hold on Wednesday and then purchased the ticket Thursday evening. By Friday afternoon I ended up not needing the ticket so I called and cancelled under the 24 hour rule. No questions asked... no problems.

This all happened last week.

Is this 24 hr cancellation policy still in place? I know US got rid of theirs because of the new HP partnership, just want to make sure UA still has it before I book a ticket.

Thanks

Still the case for UA tickets. As another poster mentioned, 24 hours from when you purchased the ticket, and not until midnight the next day.

It might be worth repeating that this 24-hour rule is for purchases from United only, not from travel agents or other booking sources:

I didn't realize that--good to know. I've only used the policy on United purchases, when I accidently booked the wrong return date. I realized it almost right away, and called UA. I couldn't figure out how to cancel online, though--I assume you can?

You can both cancel a held ticket and refund a purchased ticket online.

For a held ticket, go to "my itineraries." Then hit the, "view past trips" link. Once that page comes up (and the computer usually takes a while), find your held itinerary, open it, and hit the cancel link.

To refund a ticket within the 24 hours, just go to the ticket refund part of ual.com. Find your itin. And request the refund.

The other day I booked an itn for July. By mistake I had my return oinAugust rather then July (when my seceretary was putting it on the calendar she wondered why I was gone for a whole month rather then 3 days). I called UA. I was 17 minutes over the 24 hour period. The agent said he had to charge me $100.00 to change just the last segment from August to July. He spoke to his supervisor who told him to charge me. He suggested that I connect with a supervisor and see if they would waive the fee for the 17 minutes. I spoke to one, and she changed the month (no different routing or anything) for free. I asked her why she did it without any grief unlike the other supervisor. She said she looked at my UA record, 940,000 miles lifetime miles, eigth consecutive year as 1K and over 2 million FF miles and she said as far as she was concerend it was a "no brainer". Guess the other supervisor would not have agreed! It is 24 hours, not midnight!
