I usually just try to find some poor soul hanging out in the terminal and offer them access to the club as my one authorized guest (I get in with a USAirways club membership). I always stand several feet away with my hands behind my back and I say something like
"Excuse me - maybe you can help me do my good deed for the day. I can take one guest into United's frequent flyer lounge. Would you like to go?"
You'd be shocked how many people look me up and down and say "uh..no thanks..." like I'm some kinda stalker or something. I almost always approach men rather than women, because I don't wanna come off as creepy, but even with that restriction it usually takes me two or three tries to get a 'taker'.
One time in SFO I approached an older couple at the end of a horrendous line for the TSA checkpoint and offered to take them thru the 1K line as my guests (45 minutesr vs 4 minutes). Just goes to show ya: if your default position is 'NO', you miss out on a lot....
