Exit rows should be avoided as they are cold and dangerous :-) Haven't you seen the movie where the door pops open and you get sucked out. Avoid the exit and let an air marshal or some braver FT person sit there.

I hear that cliche is a myth; does anyone know how the physics work when the door goes bye-bye?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the possibility of a door "popping off" in flight is next to zero (if not less). The doors open IN (even the over wing exits) which means that they would have to "pop off" while being held in place by the cabin pressurization which is signficantly higher than the outside air pressure at 30,000 feet.

I second this suggestion. Avoid these rows at all costs.

If you find yourself sitting in an exit row, look around for me, and I will gallantly trade seats with you.

No thanks necessary, I am glad to help.

(Kidding aside, I have traded with my wife at least twice to take the window in exit rows, as it was too chilly for her)
