certs

I have a $25 off cert (off of published econ fare of $200 or more), that I received when I signed up for Bank One Mileage Visa card. This has my name on it, and
"This travel cert entitles the customer named hereon to a $25 discount towards the purchase of any United ....."

Can I give it to anyone else to use this cert. I wont it using it before expiration date"

The other one that I have is "One-Way Upgrade Within North America good for 1000 miles.....
Full Y or C class fare must be purchased. Premier members may use with any published fare".
Can anyone else use this one.

I'd say "No", but this is UA, so anything is possible if you get the right agent.

Of course, it's a little hard to "hang-up" at a ticket counter and try again...

I guess anyone can, but if not a MP elite, they need to pay full-fare.

On the 1000 mile upgrades: They are supposedly non-transferable, so if you give it to someone it may or may not work. Some gate agents take them, some don't.

Both the $25 cert and the 1000-mile upgrade cert are non-transferable. I had no luck at all getting a ticket agent to take the $25 cert for anyone other than myself. Nor did I have any luck using someone else's $25 cert.

I had mixed results with the upgrade. Most agents said no way (which is fine cuz that's what the cert says). One agent accepted it for an SFO-ORD Saturday morning e-fare flight that was empty in C anyway on a 777. He said it was an exception that he was making because it's Saturday and he was in a good mood. I was still prepared to support that upgrade with my own 500 milers, though.
